(kr) wrote: When I was growing up my mom used to tell me that people are like trees. In the beginning all trees look the same, healthy and green. However, as time passes trees begin to change shape. Some grow straight and strong, others curve, some grow thick, some thin, and some get sick inside, etc.Chingoo is a film just like the tree story. The story follows four friends from childhood to their 40's, periodically highlighting certain defining moments in their lives. Overall a bittersweet story of how friends can grow apart and even end up as enemies.Directed by Kyung-Taek Kwak, the movie as an old feel like it was made in the eighties. This was probably done because the story begins in the 70's during the characters childhood. While its initially difficult to tell which child grows up to be who, eventually the story gets there. Strangely the movie feels a lot longer than it really is. So the director did a wonderful job filling in a lot of details in a film less than two hours. Recommended for rental if you like thoughtful reflective movies of life and how things change over time. There are some violent scenes but they are not too gritty, except perhaps just one scene in the movie. A film definitely made for adult audiences.

The ability of appealing to classic Bond fans while still being distinctly unique makes this an evident success. Craig's Bond is exposed suspensefully through emotional and physical vulnerability that provides the character with some much needed depth. Thrilling realism at its finest.
