Daniel L (fr) wrote: I was expecting Paul Rudd a la "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" when he played the zen-esque surf instructor who was clearly high at all times. What I got was Paul Rudd in a dark, unredeeming script. Not good. Also, has Zooey Deschanel in it, which takes it down a star in and of itself for me.

Noname (it) wrote: A movie in the same spirit as City of God and that movie had some great moments so i had some hope for this similar flick. The movie are well made in every way with good story etc.. altho its not as entertaining as City of God in my opinion. Felt a bit slow time to time but when it was 30 min left its got my attention more and the movie finished off nicely.

Also he saw his parents deaths [2nd WW]. When he grew up all that anger was there and someone (his love interest) who was supposed to help him take that anger away to be a good man, transformed him to the evil Hannibal we all know. Based on books, this adaptation is not so bad, but is so cruel, I dislike it a bit (killing humans coz they killed your family is no reason to be like them and do the same. Sometimes to forgive is better). Anyway, the Hopking's films are better since they are classics but need to love them, as art yes, as advice to live on this Enjoy.

Phil H (gb) wrote: Filmed back to back with the first film ('King Solomon's Mines'), the continuity is spot on with all surviving cast members returning for the new adventure. Like before this plot is VERY loosely based on the Haggard novels, this time 'Allan Quatermain' which is the sequel to 'King Solomon's Mines'.The plot is pretty thin, 'Quatermain' goes off to find his lost brother deep in the African jungle (where else?). His brother is suppose to have found the long lost 'City of Gold' so that is what 'Quatermain' (and Sharon Stone again) search for. Alongside them they have James Earl Jones in barbarian mode again, well tribal African barbarian mode, a spiritual guru who is suppose to be the comedic relief and some tribal warriors (booby trap fodder).Problem with this film is its pretty much the same as the first one, there is nothing much to get your interest going as you've seen it all before. Also, and strangely, the visuals are much worse this time around with even more god awful bluescreen, hokey props, repeated stock footage, fake sets, tonnes of revolting natives and faceless booby trap fodder tribesmen. Location work is still the only plus point really, although James Earl Jones is clearly having a blast hamming it up in his over the top costume.Stone is even more terrible in this film as well! god knows how she became big after these films, shes a total drip!. Chamberlain still looks the part and offers some nice light touches but he's no Harrison Ford lets be honest, he doesn't really look like he could be a hero or fighter, ladies man yes but not a tough adventurer. Cassandra Peterson has a non dialog role as the sexy evil Queen, she merely stands around looking hot with her large boobies. So yeah its pretty much the usual African jungle safari stuff all over again. There is nothing really original or exciting here, the last part of the film which is set in the 'City of Gold' looks like it was filmed in an African hotel complex in the wilderness somewhere. The plot makes no sense as we move towards the finale and the way 'Quatermain' defeats the main baddie and his tribesmen is utterly ridiculous. Both films aren't taken seriously and extremely hokey all round but the first film is clearly the better one. I guess the money must have been tight for the second part as it seems a much poorer production. Its still reasonable old fashioned swashbuckling type stuff but definitely moving towards B-movie territory.

Andrew R (fr) wrote: Although Kurosawa tends to lay the melodrama on thick here, he does a superb job of showcasing human compassion through the pain and death of poor people whose lives are by no means bereft of feeling or meaning. Mifune's grumpily wise Red Beard is the perfect, if obvious, antidote to Kayama's self-centered doctor in training to see people and suffering for what they truly are, and not turn from them. That is a lesson we all must learn.

Tanya K (jp) wrote: Warrior WeddingHave you ever dreamt of having your wedding on the same day as your best friend? Yeah I didn?t think so. The story of two brides, best friends, and a mistaken wedding on the same day all begins in the movie Bride Wars, staring Anne Hathaway as Emma and Kate Hudson as Liv. Vera Wang dresses; best friends, soul mates, large cakes, beautiful decorations, and funky music are all a dream come true. As these two brides go to their dream wedding designation, the Plaza, to schedule their weddings together, it quickly escalates into a war. Having both their wedding being pushed into one day in June, the closely BFF?s turn into fast enemies. Tampering with each other?s weddings, the two brides go to great lengths to ruin the other brides wedding. Starting from an ?accidental? hair dye mix-up, to sending out fake baby shower invitations, to sending fatty chocolates to gain weight, and much more. This romance-comedy film turns two normal BFF?s into Best Enemies, war of the brides. A wedding of their dreams, that turns into a wedding of their fears, but all in a corky, and funny comedy. The two best friends manage to go from best friends to enemies, to back to being best friends. This is a great movie to enjoy with your family, at a sleepover, or even simply watching it by yourself. It is filled with lots of laughter, romance, and even emotional tears.
