Sharp satirical comedy actress Stone feels a little too contemporary outside her usual stereotype but rises to the gritty challenging; Howard is dastardly good as the patronising and despicable social ruler, whilst Jessica Chastain's performance as an ostracized white-trash blonde outcast is infectious, fragile and innocently endearing. Davis is a dramatic force of nature conveying the largest of emotion in the subtlest expression, Spencer is multifaceted with flawless timing, whilst Allison Janney and Sissy Spacek bring light-hearted but genuinely touching performances to the delightfully strong cast. But the vast original source material of novelist Cheng Yi proves to be more than a mouthful for Yao, resulting in a beautiful but seriously flawed movie. The prolonged post-production suggests heavy compromising, propably mainly in the editing room, and remaining reels won't quite gel. Empire Of Silver is a historical epic that wants to be a romance at the same time, but alas ends up as neither. Acting is accordingly confused from the entire cast, with only Zhang Tielin's aging patriarch owning up.

Fair horror film, reasonably suspenseful but also predictable with some unspectacular special effects - the "creature" is all blurry, so it's like a cover-up for what was probably crappy special effects. Nothing new here.

While the casting was somewhat unappealing, I enjoyed the film based on its story and in the end I came to accept Franco as the wizard, even though I'm not a big fan of his.

I feel like all of the characters were displayed incorrectly, with Clary appearing too weak, Jace never joking around, Alec looking too old, Isabelle being too serious and not flirtatious, along with not being gorgeous (no offence to the actress), and Magnus being too...normal. As well, there were a lot of scenes that were just dialogue, which bored me, and the action scenes were hard to follow. Plus, the movie definitely needed MORE MALEC!
