Santiago M (es) wrote: A film with an interesting and entertaining plot, supported by great performances. It has a very good setting, flowing into the storyline and providing a rich product to the viewers. It is not a movie for every audience though; an economic based plot seems flat and boring, but this film takes a turn on that and delivers perfectly. It's definitely a very well done product, and a must-see film.
Aman A (jp) wrote: Interesting concept with a lot of obvious emotion and character issues that were brought refreshingly subtly in this film. The acting was spot on and the frankness in emotive responses was endearing. It is a drama but the lace was choppy. Could have been cut down and got a bit draggy at the end. Some shots were amazing, like the conversation where Albert tells her story. Set design was low budget and obvious. It is art house yet can pass off as a commercial film. all in all, it is not a movie I will easily forget and I am glad I watched it.
Kai Z (ca) wrote: Historically inaccurate, baffles the mind in how awfully senseless it is. Stomach-churning war sentimentality combined with trauma porn - goes great together like opera and brutal rape. Let's all celebrate Christian Bale's white heroism for saving vestal virgins. This movie has the most whorephobic depiction of sex workers ever: it's the worst kind of whorephobia that masquerades as compassion for prostitutes, all the while pissing all over them. The hookers must wake up extra-early every morning to put on all that makeup and iron their hair into perfect curls - because naturally, hookers all just wake up looking like porcelain dolls, and would actually need the help of a mortician to restore a plain-faced innocence: the just-prayed, nunnery look that all hookers secretly crave. Right before they sacrifice themselves - that's when hookers are most sympathetic: when they're about to die. The only thing I learned from this movie is that rape is the only heroic redemption for being a sex worker. All the courtesans are portrayed as dumb, selfish, greedy, cowardly bitches, except for the trafficking victim who was raped at age 13. She's good because she was "never meant to be that kind of a girl." And because she reads. Whoa! Imagine a hooker who reads. Blows my mind.I can't think of a worse movie I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen a lot of movies.

Moya W (br) wrote: Laura Smiles is a story about death and regret, about wanting to rewind time and about grieving. This movie is the most touching, riveting and thought-provoking movie I have seen in a long time. Through flashbacks you get to see the transition of one person from two different time periods. It was wonderfully filmed and directed. It showed such a profound message. How a love can be so deep, how a certain love can be the only thing that really matters. Petra Wright was incredible as Laura, she had this terrific way of using her voice and her facial expressions to truly touch the audience. She reached me and managed to make all the character's feelings dig into me. This was a truly astonishing movie about not being able to forget someone. All the feelings and sorrows of the movie were so discernible and so clear, but also so magical. It will forever stay in my heart and I will always be reminded of the love's true powers.

Stuart K (ca) wrote: You'd never get away with a film like this now!! Ralph Bakshi, riding high after the success of Fritz the Cat (1972) and Heavy Traffic (1973), teamed up with Oscar-winning producer Albert S. Ruddy, for this dark satire of blaxploitation films, done in animation, (with live action segments throughout), with a plot not too far removed from Song of the South (1946). It has our Uncle Remus, prisoner Pappy (Scatman Crothers) who recalls the story of three criminals, Brother Rabbit (Philip Michael Thomas), Brother Bear (Barry White) and Preacher Fox (Charles Gordone), who take on the world of organised crime in Harlem, including homophobic cop Madigan, con-men Simple Savior and 'Black Jesus', plus The Godfather and his transexual Mafia sons. Highly controversial upon release, but it's since achieved cult status, it's the only one of it's kind, but it ain't racist, it's making fun of racist stereotypes, though it does have a serious undercurrant. It's very violent, and it doesn't hold up on the sex either. But fearless as he was then, it nearly killed Bakshi's career, hence he did The Lord of the Rings (1978).

Michael A (us) wrote: I like the idea of this movie. Love is patient. Love does no wrongs. Love is faithful and LOVE is kind. Sophie believed that love never dies and finding it may mean a lot of obstacle but even if it looks impossible look what happen now. Sophie finds her own love. It was a beautiful story. Everyday we look life loveless and that is not positive.
