Bronson's craggy faced everyman once more brings the pain to the evil doo'ers and tends to gloss over the implications that his own actions begat even more violence than it possibly cures.

Andrew B (nl) wrote: I have to be totally honest here. Fresh out of high school my father took me to see this movie and I never had seen Daniel Day Lewis in a movie, in fact I don't think I really ever heard of him. I obviously knew that Martin Scorsese and the word Gangs that I was interested. Plop in Leonardo Dicaprio on the beginning of his road to becoming a phenomenal actor and we have a really good movie. No this is not about Gangs of New York as in the modern day bloods and crips in the inner city. This takes place during the civil war when the Natives of New York led by Daniel Day Lewis playing William the butcher Cunning did not take kindly to the influx of Irish immigrants inhabiting their territory in a small pocket of New York known as the 5 points. Gangs of New York is a stylish but yet raw and gritty and extremely violent movie. On to Daniel Day Lewis. I was dumbfounded and felt rather stupid that this was the first time I had seen him in action on the big screen. I was blown away by his presence in this film. Every second he is on the screen you literally cannot take your eyes away from the film. He takes this movie from being pretty good, to REALLY good. Cameron Diaz is pretty terrible as she usually is in every movie.
