Mick T (jp) wrote: Not great at all and better is expected from Cameron. Full of cliche and characters that you can't warm to because they are, quite frankly, repulsive. By the tiime you feel any sort of empathy with Roxburgh, you've already built up enough dislike to last a lifetime and it's too late. Gave up paying any attention to it n the end and was glad when it finished. Settings are good but the acting is a little wooden and the script is awful. Avoid.

Mira B (fr) wrote: I definitely enjoyed the chemistry between the main actors, their dedication to the cause and also their wit. Especially Daniel (Brosnan) being a true gentleman trying to win Audrey's (Moore) heart through patient effort. Priceless. And even though I do not choose romantic comedies for my screen, I watched this one twice.

Mathieu F (es) wrote: Despite its many qualities, this film suffers from one major flaw -- the directing is too pompous and the characters, historical figures that are sufficiently rich and don't need such posturing to fascinate, suffer from this. At one point, toward the end, during Danton's trial, I even dozed. I don't agree with other reviews: Depardieu is not delivering a credible performance in this part. His Danton is too fickle, not powerful enough to be believable. I know I am harsh, but when you compare Depardieu's performance to Wojcieh Pszoniak who is a very convincing Robespierre, always on the edge of madness, burnt with fever, but one we don't know if it comes from his fanatic visions or his illness, the comparison reveals how much Depardieu lacks in convincing. Some scenes are successes however. Among others, the final scene is really a beautiful concept: Robespierre, burnt with fever and guilt hears the Declaration of the Rights of Man recited by a young child, the very embodiment of the virtue of innocence, the justification Robespierre used to establish the Terror.

Danny S (jp) wrote: An average Van Damme flick. Even though it's not nearly 2 hours long, it feels as if the plot takes forever, but there are enough action set pieces to keep you watching and the special effects aren't bad either.
