Jiana W (ag) wrote: A fairly joyless and melancholy movie. Even the teenagers here, who are supposed to sort of be Leigh's form of escape from reality, have problems. No one is really carefree. Her relationship with Jason becomes sketchy. I could have forgiven it if he was, say, 18 or just about to become 18 within the movie (as in they show him having a birthday celebration.) Nope. Jason is ABOUT to be a high school senior when he meets Leigh. Pretty unacceptable, even if he is knowledgeable, willing, and old enough to make such a decision. If roles were reversed, and Leigh was a 29 year old man while Jason was a 16 year old girl, then things would be extremely different in how people view this. It's never "OK" in the movie that they are sleeping together but it doesn't even blow up the way it should. Leigh escapes relatively unscathed by her irresponsible behavior. An okay movie that could have been so much more. And could've been way funnier and more engaging as well.

Uriel G (mx) wrote: As every Snyder movie, 300 is a beautiful show of technic stuff, as slow motion and especial effects, with a great dark atmosphere. But lacks of coherence and it seems you are watching a fantasy movie instead of a historical movie (i can say the same for Miller's graphic novel)Although is a great adaptation of the mentioned Miller's work, fails in telling the story to the people, watching the spartans fight for a weak purpose and the persians portrayed as the bad guys fighting the "heroes" whose purpose is even more weak.A movie to entertain, nothing else.

Jonathan D (nl) wrote: First half is quite entertaining, but then the vapid sex scenes. And then the second half goes downhill.

Mateo D (au) wrote: could have done alot with this film. also the film is more stylized in the music/editing then the first, making it hit or miss. i'll say its a miss. ending kinda sucked and i felt that the build up of the other characters besides jake were underdeveloped

Sam I (fr) wrote: It is a frequently made observation that roles for women can be desperately limited, if not in number then in scope. That being the case the part of the eponymous Rose must have been a tremendous gift for Laura Dern. She siezes it with both hands and gives this complex character real ife. Dern's Rose is a character of tremendous charm and subtle shadings; Rose may be simple but Dern is careful never to make her stupid. The performance garnered an Oscar nomination (in the frankly outstanding year in which Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon were up for Thelma and Louise and Jodies Foster won for Silence of the Lambs) but it is hardly the sole attraction of this very fine film.Robert Duvall is his dependably excellent self as Daddy and it is to his credit that he finds the balance in his character, who could have come off as an ogre, and makes us like and respect him. Also Oscar nominated was Diane Ladd as Mother and she gives a performance of great strength and dignity, vital in the last act of the film. Then 14 Lukas Haas again shows that he was one of a very few child actors who aren't monumentally annoying. His strong performance may be down to a real understanding of being a hormonal teenager or it may simply be that he WAS a hormonal teenager, but it works and he's a fine partner for Dern in their scenes together.Martha Coolidge strikes a fine balance between the more sexual elements of the story and the sweetness of the tone of the film, never more so than in the film's outstanding scene where Rose asks if she can get in bed with Buddy and he uses this oppurtunity to get her to let him explore her body. This could be deeply unsavoury but the dialogue takes that out of it, making it about a curious boy and a desperate, confused girl and it ends up being a sweet scene in spite of itself. The film also tiptoes between comedy and drama, but it's strongest when mixing the two, as with Dern's lovely line about being "Only a human girl person".An excellent character piece, with terrific performances from all concerned, Rambling Rose is the kind of movie that they just don't make enough of.

Guido S (kr) wrote: The Good Wife, Quinn from Dexter, Bones from Star Trek and Gabriel Byrne are on a salvage boat and find an abandoned ship in the middle of the sea. They board and find gold and try to get it for themselves, when things go horribly wrong. This film just isn't that scary. It has the right atmosphere, but things just don't happen. You would expect more ghosts since it is called Ghost Ship. Once the 'twist' happens, it just lost any and all interest I had in this. The cast is great, but they couldn't turn this into a good movie.

Bradley K (mx) wrote: Gorgeously lit, but infuriatingly heavy handed and therefore not very enjoyable. Burnett's Killer of Sheep is something to watch for the same commentary on institutionalized racism but far more engaging and poetic.

Maxi K (nl) wrote: this is my favorite movie of all time: the people actually know how 2 ride, unlike almost all other horse movies! yay! go moondance alexander!!!!

Haytham K (ru) wrote: A rehash of the Charlotte Bronte classic "Jean Eyre", this eerie film has few but really creepy sequences: the crying and first meeting of the heroine with her patient, the constant pounding of the voodoo drums in the distance at night, the walk through the sugar cane field under the eerie moonlight... While I expected more horror moments from this film, it is definitely worth a watch.
