(au) wrote: The biggest issue with surviving Christmas is the horrible writing that is unable to provide a character anyone can really like. The acting isn't great and mostly that is due to the por writing as well. This film might have been better with a better writer but as is it is an over-acted, poorly directed and unfunny Christmas flick.

Clint Eastwood and Bernadette Peters give horrible performances. The script is badly written. Buddy Van Horn did a terrible job directing this movie. I was not impressed with this motion picture.

A 60s Russian production bringing together the two communist countries, Kalatazov's film developed into a no-expense spared exercise in cinematic style. It features some of the most striking dynamic camerawork since the German Expressionists, and the black and white photography is stunning. It does carry a slightly naive political message, but I get the feeling the filmmakers left a lot of political idealism behind and just enjoyed immersing their film in the Cuban culture and landscape.
