Not Angels But Angels
Interviews with a procurer and with nineteen boys and young men who are prostitutes in Prague. The youths range in age from 14 to 19. They hustle at the central train station and at clubs. Most of their clients are foreign tourists, many are German. The youths talk about why they hustle, their first trick, prices, dangers, what they know about AIDS, their fears (disease and loneliness), and how they imagine their futures. The film's title, its liturgical score, much of it elegiac, and shots of the city's statues of angels underline the vulnerability and callow lack of sophistication of the young men.

(mx) wrote: This movie has "speed", charm and nice soundtrack. Sometimes quite predictable story has unpredictable final and actors do their best. It's probably not the movie you will see twice but it's definitely the one you will enjoy.
(ca) wrote: This is surprisingly not as bad as one might think. The story moves along at a quick pace and it's impossible to predict just where exactly it's going. The midget clown, black panther and gigantic toy soldier? What a twisted imagination. Also, the make-up effects are very effective and in certain sequences, particularly gruesome (hence the video nasty labeling.) The alternate ending is in fact a little bit better but not as horrific. It's also nice to hear that the director has a sense of humor about the quality of his work. All in all, there's enough nastiness in here to not disappoint horror fans.

The main problem is someone shoe horned an ending on to it that is just not acceptable. I'm tempted to dock it a star for this, but up till that last few minutes, it was damned fine.
