Sanity Assassin (ca) wrote: funny trash. maybe even worth watching just for the scene where the romans are trying to figure out if worthaboutapig is fit to be a gladiator or a slave. it has its moments...

Justin B (jp) wrote: A wonderfully relatable and cringe-inducingly awkward comedy that suffers from a lot of contrived situations and was unfortunately run into the ground with its well below par sequels.

Joe W (mx) wrote: I actually quite enjoyed this movie. Has some very cool subtext on patriotism and heroism. Very cheesey and camp like most 90s horror but worth the watch.

Chris M (mx) wrote: There's a difference between so bad it's good and just plain bad. Case in point, Doom Asylum! On the outside, it seems to have everything it needs to entertain less picky horror fans. Stupid teens...check! Spooky, isolated location...Check! Plentiful gore...check! It's too bad that this is a member of the rarely successful sub-genre...the horror comedy!!! What should be a barrel of chuckles gets sour pretty quickly, once one starts to realize that the film is actually TRYING to be cheesy. All of the performances are terrible, including the normally adorable Kristen Davis (yes, I love her on Sex and the City!). The gore effects are sometimes good, sometimes dreadful. The creepy location is hardly milked for all its potential. There's also a hilariously effeminate black actor trying to come off as straight (the highlight of the film). The killer also spouts out some of the most horrendously unfunny one liners after each kill a la post-1987 Freddy Kruger.Doom Asylum isn't all bad, but its weaknesses outweigh its strengths. Sex and the City haters might enjoy seeing Kristen Davis get her face split apart with a buzz saw, albeit laughably fake. More adventurous horror fans might want to attempt a viewing, but don't say I didn't warn you!

Sally A (fr) wrote: This is such an underrated film! I adore the Rosalind Russell version of course but this version holds up quite well in my opinion. Lucille Ball had just the right amount of edginess to play Mame well and Bea Arthur is magnificent!

Jareth S (fr) wrote: Other filmgoers may not be as enthusiastic about it, but for Garbo fans this pre-code film is a must-see. I remember when TCM ran biopics one month and the promo tv spot (set to Doves song "Walk in Fire") showed a scene of Garbo sitting on a throne in a darkened room with her face in her hand. That little snippet made me want to see the film to know what that scene was all about -- brilliant choice by whomever edited that promo together). Garbo plays (a fictionalized version of) a Swedish queen who falls for a foreign diplomat whom she meets while incognito in drag at a hunting lodge. It's strongly hinted that her character is bisexual. There's a great morning after scene of an erotically-charged Garbo walking around the room in her afterglow approaching everything with a newfound sense of wonder while talking to her new beau. Unfortunately, the natives are restless about their queen and her new love affair comes into conflict with her duty.

Michael J (ag) wrote: Anyone saying anything bad about this performance is obviously biased. Anyone saying anything great about this movie is also being biased. Bruce Lee had a way of affecting his viewers in that way. Captivating his audience with legendary skill.

Sean D (es) wrote: Seemingly a much better and less emo The Abominable Dr. Phibes. Quite frankly, the entire film felt like it was a remake of it. At least the first half of the film was pretty boring but then near the end it started picking up. Fairly original concept. Definitely a slasher film.

Lauren S (au) wrote: Not as bad as I had originally been warned. The first two vignettes were actually very engaging. Sadly, it went downhill after that.
