One Man's Journey

One Man's Journey

Dr. Eli Watt, a widower, comes to a small town, considering himself a failure in his attempt to have a meaningful career in New York. He raises his son Jimmy as well as Letty, a baby whose mother has died in childbirth and whose father blames Watt and abandons the child. Watt dreams of returning to do research studies, but always something gets in the way: an epidemic, his children's needs, or the needs of his generally ungrateful patients. Only with the passing years does he come to find that his future isn't over and his past isn't quite the failure he believed.

John Joseph M (es) wrote: Unsettling with a clever end reel but it's a hard slog for little pay off.

Jack T (nl) wrote: The most intriguing premise in the world isn't enough to save this from becoming dull and boring way too quickly. Recommended only for those with a strong interest in serial killers and criminology.

Richard H (es) wrote: ok. can be depressing

Julie R (ru) wrote: I loved this movie. Hilarious and surprisingly romantic.

Johnny T (br) wrote: It's harmless fun, but it underutilizes Murphy, who's largely reduced to doing virtuoso variations on his iconic smile. It may not be earthshaking, but this calmly competent feel-good movie shows that a little sincerity can go a long way. A pleasant piece of commercial filmmaking, but as a satirical comedy, it's devoid of laughs and insight. Complex issues of ambition and consumerism taken to televangelic levels aren't truly addressed or resolved but simply tied up in a box with the message that love conquers all. Goldblum and Murphy outdo each other in their odd roles, each minimizing his tendency toward shtick and giving a convincing dramatic performance. VERDICT: "Rental" - (Negative to Mixed reaction). These films are only worth renting because of certain good things that are worth seeing, but are not worth paying at a theatre to see due to bad things that overcome anything good.

Charlie M (au) wrote: Three years after a college prank gone awry, a sorority & fraternity celebrate New Year's Eve on a train. Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis and friends just want to get stoned and disco, but a masked killer with a thirst for vengeance has other plans. After the epic horror thriller Halloween in 1978, Jamie Lee did 4 horror movies in a rowHalloween II, Prom Night, The Fog & Terror Train. This is the least terrible of those 4. It features a bunch of costumed Greeks on a train, and the train's conductor with dreams of being a Winnebago salesman. So it's somewhat original, but as with every horror movie the true underlying fable is that sexual humiliation leads to sociopathic behavior. The biggest offense is the era itself. The movie features Disco dancing and a live magic show performed by THE David Copperfield....so that happens. Corny & dated, but not terrible as it all sounds. Ending is amusing with a decent twist.

Kenny N (es) wrote: I love horror anthologies. I hunt down as many as I can get my hands on. I searched EXTRA hard for this one, because it sounded like a good time. I was half right. 2 stars go to the super scary first segment (in which a suburban housewife takes a late night trip to the store for cigarettes when a homicidal maniac is on the loose) and a half a star to an incredible special effect in the third segment (a truck emerging from the mouth of hell in a story about a lapsed priest who encounters the truck from hell.) The first has great tension that mounts and mounts until the shocking (if you've never heard the old urban legend) finale. And the third-that special effect is singlehandedly better than anything in "The Car." The second and fourth stories are brought down by hilariously outdated special effects. There's a veritable who's who of actors and actresses, past and future stars, to bring the stories to life. But overall this one was only about half good. 2 and 1/2 stars seems fair.
