Petros T (kr) wrote: It tries hard to be different and, although it derails at some points, it succeeds thanks to the heartfelt performances by Kad Merad and Anne Marivin, the splendid Line Renaud, an awesome guest appearance by Michel Galabru and some really fresh jokes. It's not perfect, but it is exactly (or almost exactly) the kind of comedy needed nowadays. Refreshing and clever. Thanks.

Aaron W (au) wrote: Jeff, a doctor played by Robert Mitchum, leaves his nice little nurse girl, Julie, for the mentally unstable suicide patient Margo, our femme fatale, played by Faith Domergue. Long story short, Margo's husband gives Jeff a concussion with a fire poker, Jeff fights back and accidentally kills the man, and the two lovers set off for Tijuana. I mean, it's not exactly hard to figure out what's going on here. With the obvious question being: why was Margo's husband merely unconscious when Jeff left the room and dead when he returned? So the obviousness of the "twist" kind of takes the fun out of the plot. And all of the obstacles the protagonists encounter on their way to Mexico do seem a bit contrived. I mean they stumble into a town on Whiskers Day and are arrested for not having beards. "Whiskers Day," really? That said, Mitchum's always great, the film's beautifully shot, and that fire poker scene's a hoot. All in all, it's an enjoyable but fairly unremarkable little piece of film noir.
