Timothy M (mx) wrote: Comes closest to capturing the elusive, dark, brooding soul of the Legend of any telling for the past 40 years. As this telling takes place in 1890, the timeline is off significantly but that matters little when talking about a Legend. It only enhances the enjoyment of the story.

Film G (it) wrote: First people saying this is a "Woody Allen" movie are just showng how vapid and uneducated they are. This film has a great real film feel to it and I spent the whole time trying to figure out what year it was in. The backgrounds go from what seemed to be the 50's up to modern day in subtle ways. It was a very flashback/retro movie for me that reminded me of the 1970s and how quiet and simple things were before computers and the cell phone. Woody Allen didn't invent movies filmed in NY with a narration. The film had me interested the whole time and I admired the cinematography, the locations, architecture, wardrobe, backgrounds, and sets. It's not the best movie in the world but it made me thing which is more than 99.9% of the drivel being made today does. If you didn't like it I can direct you to some worthless films like Intersteller, The Hobbit, Night at the Museum, Fifty Shades of Grey... all which were rated better than this film but were much less enjoyed by me. Also the film poster/cover totally misleads the fim goer because it totaly misses the retro feeling that this film has.

Cory L (ru) wrote: A beautifully-shot and fairly unflinching account of a Buddhist disciple's search for the reincarnation of his recently-deceased master. Intermittently lighthearted, the removal of a child from his family in the name of faith will nonetheless be troubling - even unintentionally creepy - to many Westerners.

Silas A (jp) wrote: Very realistic, almost improvised, story of a middle class English family on holiday in Italy joined by their 40 something friend who is in a mid-life crisis and attempts to hang out with the younger off-spring of her old school friend. Slow but well acted. SEEN AT THE MELBOURNE INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL 2008.

Keira R (jp) wrote: Definitely interesting...and yes, it makes you think about the total bullshit that is religious dogma. I find it interesting that when Bill asks some people questions, their answer is "because that's the way it is," or "because God said so." Um, okay...when logical thinking fails, throw in a little bullshit & pretend it's what God would say...And since it's Bill Maher, it's pretty funny too. More people should ask questions, instead of just blindly following others. Just watch & judge for yourself.
