Painted Fire

Painted Fire

The struggles of an artist. Jang Seung-up (1843-1897), also called Owon, focusing on the years 1882 to 1897, when Korea was in political upheaval, caught between China and Japan, the conservative dynasty dying, and peasant revolt at hand. Jang, born poor, has genius; a merchant, Kim, becomes his patron, finding him a teacher. Jang must convince others that a commoner can have talent, then move beyond his ability to copy old masters and find his own style. He's bedeviled by a temper and alcohol, arguments with patrons as he seeks commissions, and relationships with kisaeng, particularly Mae-hyang, that start and stop. It's the life of a restless spirit producing great art.

A L (ag) wrote: Avoid this movie at all costs. Terribly written, if you can even say it was written and terribly acted. Usually with this kind of film you can say at least the fight sequences were good, but even then they were butchered by quick cuts and the camera being far too close up like in Batman Begins. I nearly walked out 30 minutes into this train wreck, but decided to stick with it till the end, now I wish I had and saved myself 2 hours of torture.

David A (kr) wrote: Starts off really good with these great suspenses and jump scares, but once that "other dimension" bullshit comes into play, the film becomes unrealistic and the ending was just... off and not well-developed. I don't know. It didn't felt like a proper way to end the film. For me, this film feels like a test that James Wan made before he did "The Conjuring." I believe he was testing the waters before he actually committed the work. In the end, "Insidious" might have some nice scares, but it's not enough to warrant itself as a good horror flick. just average, at best.

Skeletons from the past rear their ugly heads and creates a rift amongst the dysfunctional family as the try to rein in the arguments with the impending big day approaching.Filmed with a hand-held photography style which captures the film with home video realism and the performances and screenplay accurately portrays a family desperately trying to bury it's head beneath the sand for the greater good. The low-key style won't suit everyone's viewing tastes, but it's certainly worth watching to experience a good spot of acting, especially Anne Hathaway and Rosemarie DeWitt as Rachel.

Gina W (de) wrote: I am nt hating on the accent, but this was the most stupidiest bank robbery movie tht I've watched. I felt very sorry for th writer, whose work was gud, the plot wasnt bad bt the actors and the directors butchered the movie. The absolutely no suspense, the actors accents made it terrible, the twist didn leave much of a climax, as in everything that shud be in an action movie wasnt there. Dont even lemme get started on the so- called 'police', they give law reinforcement a bad name! in short, terrible.

Jimmy P (ag) wrote: Actually sad I taped over this. Very different, very arty, lynchian vampie flick.Peter Fonda as Helsing,on a bicycle!
