McNab's 8 man squad was sent deep into enemy territory to severe Iraqi communication lines and destroy a mobile missile launch platform. Unluckily their mission failed miserably due to series of unforeseen events and led to brutal imprisonment in enemy hands. What is really good about Bravo Two Zero is how it dares to tell the unwanted and inglorious side of warfare, captivity, which at times translates into gross violations of human rights in every way imaginable. The sadistic prison guard Jeral tormenting Andy in the latter part of the film offers a worrisome example of this! Irritatingly it is the part leading to captivity where the film does not fare so well. If Bravo Two Zero is to be believed, British Elite Force SAS is composed of middle aged males who prefer to tackle their enemies with bad humor instead of their superior combat skills. Overall I found the films approach towards SAS as an elite military force weak and unconvincing. And if the films take on the characters and SAS was not bad enough, the amateurish combat scenes and low budget seal the films path to mediocrity. Bravo Two Zero tells a important and interesting story but its glaring flaws are too big to ignore and seriously hamper the films resolve. Sean Bean is the definitive highlight of the film with his strong performance, but sadly he alone cannot fix the film's glaring shortcomings.
