Even if all this is just a concoction of Chuck Barris' imagination, it nevertheless is a remarkable bit of creative writing. And the casting is fun, including a couple of cameos in The Dating Game clips where -- as often actually happened -- an oaf was chosen over a couple of really handsome guys.

(kr) wrote: Almost as good as the Dollars trilogy. It's a bit of a parody of those films but it also has a lot of heart in its portrayal of an aging gunman trying to retire and the young gun trying to convince him his legend requires him to go out in a blaze of glory. I love Henry Fonda in this movie. I think I'd give it a full five stars if there wasn't for a long stretch in the middle where the plot doesn't advance. They only have it there to provide an action scenes.
(fr) wrote: Manoel and Rosa, two peasant farmers, escape into the backcountry of Brazil after killing a ruthless employer. The two try to find solace in a cult religious following led by a black mystic and then a bandit. All the while, there is the ominous presence of an mysterious figure known as Antonio das Mortes who seems to be out to destroy anything that interferes with church and state. Rocha certainly has a passion for westerns, clearly evident in this film, shot in a very bleached out black and white. The plight of the two farmers is thoroughly interesting. Stagy acting and some existential prophesizing from some of the characters does give the film a bit of a pretentious vibe. Nevertheless, a unique vision and an acknowledged cinematic landmark that should be seen.
