A PLEASANT MIXTURE OF POLITICS, ROMANCE, & CUTTING EDGE KUNG FU! 1920'S ERA CHINA PERFECTLY ILLUSTRATED UNDER HERMAN YAU'S SUPERIOR DIRECTION! With a run time of only 100 minutes, at first I was stunned to see Sammo Hung Kam-Bo playing Chan Wah Shun, Yip Man's master, because he died in IP Man 2. But, ... as one who often watches prequels and sequels alike, I opened my mind up and quickly got passed this, as Sammo's appearance is brief, and relatively unimportant in the large scope of the movie's sole plot ... to illustrate the growth of Yip Man from a promising young pupil into an unstoppable force. I appreciate the inclusion of competition between Cheung Wing Shing (Huang Yi) and Li Mei Wai (Rose Chan) who both are in love with Yip Man, all while his brother Yip Tin Chi (played by iu-Wong Fan) desperately tries to match make Cheung Wing Shing with Yip Man, so that perhaps, his fellow pupil, Li Mei Wai will finally acknowledge and welcome his undying love for her. This story's antagonist is not a mere single individual, as in all 3 trilogy films, but instead political corruption ... which later threatens his temple, his friends and his honor, forcing Yip Man (played by Yu-Hang To) to single handedly fight off a swarm of Japanese Shinobi in what yields, ONE HELLUVA ULTIMATE MARTIAL ARTS SHOWDOWN! This film rates 5 stars just like the IP Man trilogy does!

Mark H (us) wrote: Fantastic realization of the novel of the same name about Christopher McCandless, who at age 22 and disillusioned by his parent's deception about his father's polygamy, abandons his comfortable upper-class life immediately upon graduating from college to explore the country largely on foot. He spends the first 2 years moving around the western states, taking various jobs and living off the land for weeks at a time. He travels down the Colorado River by kayak, and, after wandering for nearly 2 years, decides to travel to Alaska to attempt to live off the land for several months. The film is very well made, the performances, especially young Emile Hirsch, are very authentic and affecting. Backed by an incredible soundtrack of original songs by Eddie Vedder, this is a great movie about a somewhat lost soul, but someone most people can relate to at some point in their lives, who is merely searching for what he calls "truth." This film makes me question my own choices and lifestyle, which must say something about the power of this film. The end is tragic, but almost necessarily so. Would we have ever known of McCandless, aka "Alexander Supertramp," had he not perished alone in an abandoned bus in the Alaskan wild? This is a compelling story that is, understandably, quite polarizing. Opinions vary greatly about Alex and his journey. One thing is undeniable - he had the courage and principles which few have at age 22 to walk into the world alone and try to discovery who he was. Sean Penn pays the proper respect to the life of one young man who, right or wrong, chose to live a certain life instead of being told what kind of life to live, particularly by those he no longer trusted or respected.

Absurd, at times ridiculous yet absolutely enthralling, this project feels as tangible as it possibly can without having the viewer actively participating in its story. Not for everyone and, for what is worth, I didn't fall head over heels for it or anything, but it is absolutely deeming a watch if only for the actuality factor. A man's descent into madness filmed in such an accurate way I've only previously witnessed in films like Angst and Possession.

Then in 1965 the towns ghost unleash a cenetianal celebration involing a series of brutal touture games involing 6 inconcent present day notherns that took a wrong turn. However suspene is non existant due to two thousand and six terrible over the top bad actors including the present of a playboy playmate , thats right HGL had a playboy bunny in one of gore films. Speaking of the gore is it worthy act of HGL " the king of gore "? , you bet ya with scenes like a bolder crushing a woman, a man being killed by rolling down a hill in a barrel filled of nails and a woman having her arm hached of and babracued. A nice entry to the blood trilogy ( which featured Blood Fest, Two Thousand Maniacs and Colour Me Blood Red). 4/10

It was an inspiration to me in my adolescence and may actuallyly have contributed to my career choice later in life. the acting is superb; it's hard to say whose performance was the best as they were all magnificent. I watched it again recently and cried as if I were seeing it for the first time.
