Alex r (us) wrote: entertaining at times but overall a cheesy and over the top slasher flick. there's no way i'd recommend this for somebody. it might go good for a good drunken party movie or somethin though

Meredith W (kr) wrote: Better than expected, given what reviews have said. Predictable storyline with some funny moments. Great scenery.

Skyler B (kr) wrote: I had to watch this in my Contemp Chinese Soc class and was blown away. A touching love story set... somewhere, could be China, not sure deals with many concepts. But when the kid uses the word "dad" near the middle of the movie, it will grab you by the nose-hairs and shout at you "I AM QUALITY" and you will cry. Trust me.

HM F (de) wrote: Richard Harris brews intensity in this lavishly mounted but historically flawed epic. Harris is a good deal taller and more Irish then the geunine article, but he brings authentic life to his zeal to bring down what he feels is an unjust king. Alec Guinness brings some real humanity to his role as Charles I, his walk to his execution a particualrly pongiant scene. Timothy Dalton stands out in a showy role as Prince Rupert, shockingly flamboyant and dandy considering his mostly serious demenaor in other roles. Ken Hughes direction is lacking in capturing much energy from what's happening on screen, even during the battle sequences. The production design is excellent, especially the centerpiece set of the Parliment. The lead performances of Guinness and Harris makes this movie worth the occasional watch.

Jenna I (br) wrote: Leave it to Ken Russell to direct a movie about putting on a play which is being being considered to be optioned as a movie while simultaneously being performed both on stage and in the actors personal lives. I adored this movie, it left me with a huge smile on my face for two hours.Ken Russell is my favorite for pretty much every reason in this film- the consistent style that never lets up and only gets more intense, dazzling visuals/costumes/makeup/sets/camera work, his indulgence in what he likes that borderlines on too much but always manages to save itself from becoming stale, a great sense of humor and iconic actors going over the top but to perfection. Twiggy is perfect in this role and fascinating to look at at every turn. Tommy Tune also steals the show.
