Troy K (nl) wrote: This should be required viewing for everyone in this country even though it is aimed at a younger audience. The synopsis is off and although it does start off with sometimes corny generalizations on the ease of such ventures, halfway through gets very real about how the drug war is effecting all of us.

David L (fr) wrote: About Schmidt has a somewhat inferior first half and sometimes the tonal shifts aren't the most skilful, but this is mostly a great film which is equally funny and heartwarming with some scenes that are absolutely hilarious and some that are emotional and simply beautiful. The characters are colorful, the script is very strong, it deals with a lot of important issues, it succeeds as a series of crazy vignettes and it features possibly the finest performance in Jack Nicholson's career.

It is also the first film to talk about the death penalty. Robert Wise, the famous director who directed West Side Story and The Sound Of Music, directed this 1958 jazzed-up drama.
Talyn M (us) wrote: Campy and stupid, a great film to put on for a Halloween party. Some of the lines made me smile and some of the visuals and costumes are actually kind of cool, but watching the story closely, you'll realize there are a lot of gaps in the story (Van Helsing's ambiguous background) that are never really addressed beyond planting the seeds of *something* and a so-so performance by Beckinsale. Despite that, I still managed to feel Helsing and Anna's chemistry, and I very much enjoyed the friar Carl as comedic relief. Basically the viewer-insert of "the hell is that, the hell are you?! Oh God, let's not.." Overall it's a harmless film that a more serious viewer will probably mercilessly poke holes into it, but a more casual viewer may derive more entertainment from it.
