It was not unlike Casablanca in that it was an aptly and efficiently told story without any mistakes, and the pieces that tend to destroy biopics (flashbacks, explanation) etc. were niftily done through vaudeville-like acts and exceptional monologues by Tom Hardy. Is Tom Hardy the most underrated actor today? Maybe. He's awfully good.

Perhaps his first shot at directing isn't at all memorable, but he's definitely got a good eye for cinematography and that's a decent place to start. Hopefully there'll be more attempts at better stories and Crowe will prove himself a worthy director.
