(it) wrote: What a waste of an indie dream cast (the leads are David Duchovny, Julianne Moore, Billy Crudup, and Maggie Gyllenhaal, with people like Bob Balaban and Eva Mendes in supporting roles). The unfocused plot jumps around way too much between semi-related events. Sadly, an ensemble of characters with romantic problems in New York City does not by itself guarantee an interesting or coherent story.

The film is written, acted, and directed flawlessly to its function.
(ru) wrote: Sadly sung and softly strung Badly Drawn Boy - soundtrack innovators of About A Boy - are the real narrators of the Weitz Brothers' melancholy black comedy. Hugh Grant, Nicholas Hoult and Toni Collette all give brave and committed performances throughout. The film is good, funny, relateable, realistic and sadder than it would like to admit.

Sympathique.

I just have to wonder after seeing the movie if there are laws against having child actors commit violent acts of murder on set? Martin is pretty bad ass.
(us) wrote: Another excellent vehicle for Ferrell's comedic style, Blades of Glory is unique in its subject matter (even if it traffics a bit too much in homophobic comedy) and in its sense of humor. Ridiculous and entertaining, Blades of Glory will satiate the viewer's desire for simple, strait forward and simple comedic entertainment. The timing and chemistry between the entire cast is excellent, and Amy Poehler and Will Arnet's turn as an incredibly unique pair of psychopathic skaters is perhaps the highlight of the film. But this film is also a vehicle perfectly suited for Farrell's comedic skills as the overly large, bumbling and deluded male interested only in himself.
