Faris W (es) wrote: Perhaps a better name for this film would have been ~Bore Assassins(TM) an extremely slow moving film, with lots of talk, and very little action. With the title of the film being Four Assassins? you would have expected plenty of action, copious killings, a plethora of blood splatter crime scenes, and intricate well executed, diabolical, methodical murder sequences; however, the audience is relegated to basically a ~one act(TM) play where 99% of the film takes place in a single hotel room. The film centers on Marcus, played by Will Yun Lee (Red Dawn 2012/ Total Recall 2012). Marcus is a gun for hire, who has been commissioned to kill a husband and his wife. As the film begins, Marcus is awaiting final payment for his services in his hotel room. He is soon joined by his ~assassin(TM) mentor, Eli (played by Miguel Ferrer), his former lover and fellow assassin, Eva (played by Emilie Guillot), and an upcoming ~newbie(TM) assassin, Chase (played by Oliver Williams). There seems to be an issue with the ~hit(TM) that Marcus was hired to do, and the film goes into great, agonizing details of the events which have led these four (4) individuals to arrive at this hotel room, on this night, at this specific time. The three (3) guests have two hours to determine what events have actually transpired during the Marcus ~hit(TM) before an anticipated phone call from the boss takes place.I believe the film would have been a much better film, if the film would have tracked the trials and tribulations of the life Marcus. Mentored by Eli at the age of 15 to become a viable assassin, and united with Eva to become a forcible killing duo; this is the story we the audience wanted to see not ~My Hakata Tonton hot pot dinner with Eli and friends(TM).I cannot recommend this film, not even for home viewing. After all is said and done, the ultimate outcome is far more depressing than having to endure the 88 minutes to finally get to it. I(TM)d stay away from this one, definitely not worth your time or your attention to seek out.

Ronald S (us) wrote: This is a great road trip movie. I wasn't sure how well I was going to like the lead actor (and apparently director?), but he really won me over. This movie has a real focus on life, especially childhood. As grown ups, we are sometimes put into a situation where we feel as if we are children again, wondering around without reason and just trying to figure it all out. I think we've all felt that from time to time. No matter how much you think you've figured your life out, there's always room to get lost. This is about getting lost and finding your way back.Great, great movie. I really really liked it.

Andrew L (gb) wrote: Though the animation is on point, this underwhelming sequel provides barely any enjoyable moments and gradually drags on to the point which you don't even want to root for anybody.

Raji K (br) wrote: Oliver Stone co-writes and directs his take on the game of football in Any Given Sunday. Pacino is coach Tony D'Amato, a coach who has proved he can win, but has somewhat of a struggling team on his hands that has lost 3 straight in a row. To make matters worse, his starting quarterback Jack Rooney (Dennis Quaid), and his backup quarterback have both been knocked out of the game. This leaves it up to the third string quarter back Willie Beamen (Jamie Foxx) who must take the helm despite being awfully green. As Beamen progresses through the season he realizes he must balance all the various pressures that come with being a quarterback. This includes everything from making his receivers happy, understanding the defense, and the pressures of completing plays from both his coach and offensive coordinator. D'Amato has to handle the struggles of his pressing owner Christina Pagniacci (Cameron Diaz), and keep his team together with the rookie quarterback at helm. Wide receivers and Linebackers need and want their stats and credit too, and have to play through injury or at other times be protected from themselves as they try and play when they shouldn't. Any Given Sunday is a pretty solid football drama. Stone tries to capture all aspects and surrounding elements of football. This includes the game itself, but also the characters and pressures off the field. This includes nothing short of pesky reporters, drugs, selfish players, and many of the other sacrifices that have to be made to keep the team going. The casting of Jim Brown and Lawrence Taylor give the film a more realistic and hard-nosed edge to the film. The film is well directed and in a chaotic fashion that tries to match the intensity of the sport. In some cases, he goes a bit far such as the slow-motion rain sequence, or a player losing an eye on the field, but overall Stone does a good job portraying realistic characters and scenarios. The film is a good change of pace from the football comedy, or the traditional biographical football film. -1.21.2017

Brad S (de) wrote: Pretty cheesy, but it has a couple moments. Amazing how dated the film is, though only from 1992. Early appearances from Hilary Swank and Ben Affleck. Foe fans only.

Gregg A (us) wrote: I'm a sucker for the Amicus Studios Anthology Horror films. Recently I'd discovered I hadn't seen a handful of them and this was the first of my "Unwatched gems". It's good fun and all the stories have their own merits... if you like this sort of thing (Tales from the Crypt, Dr. Terror, Vault of Horror) watch this flick today today!

Ian B (it) wrote: By the late 80's the horror genre was in a bit of a downfall after the slasher boom that preceded it. We still got a few classics towards the end of the decade and one of the best was Clive Barker's Hellraiser. Adapted from his own novel, The Hellbound Heart, this low budget shocker never enjoyed the mainstream success that fellow franchises like Halloween and Friday the 13th saw for very obvious reasons. Hellraiser is an extremely gruesome film with some truly haunting imagery, but it's also smart enough to build a good story around all the gore. It works as a horror film, a dysfunctional family drama and a sadomasochist nightmare all rolled into one. There are plenty of nasty moments (even by today's standards), but the film also has some wonderful cinematography, strong performances, a terrific score, and, obviously, introduced us to one of the genre's most memorable villains in Pinhead. Clive Barker created a horrific work of art with Hellraiser, and perhaps the best compliment one can say is that all these years later there's still absolutely nothing else like it.

Susan S (ag) wrote: Well, Ocean's 13 followed about the same formula as Ocean 11 & 12- which, I have to admit, got a bit tiring around the middle. But with such likable characters, it's hard not to enjoy the ride anyway. Who doesn't enjoy the notion that Shaobo Qin's character Yen can understand English perfectly while everyone else can understand Chinese perfectly? It's funny every time. But the prosthetic nose on Matt Damon's character made me actually nauseous which made the bizarre seduction scenes with Abagail Sponder extra repulsive- this was not a plus for the movie. Neither were some of the bad costumes- peering at George Clooney's Guapo Italiano getup, Brad Pitt's Fruit and Nut Earthquake Expert getup and Don Cheadle's Black Sista/Captain America Persona. In the end, however, I had a good time. I still enjoyed the guys winning everything in the end. One of my favorite characters continues to be Elliott Gould, who was great in the movie. And of course, I always love the all time hottie, Andie Garcia, who never disappoints. I can't give a half star or I would have given three and a half and I can't justify a four star rating so a three star will have to do!
