Absolutely beautiful film with superb acting and great photography...Who could be better than Dench and Smith...a treat to the eyes and a plus for acting. Both Judi Dench and Maggie Smith did excellent in portraying love and jealousy. It is amazing that by just one look on the face, you can tell how the characters are thinking.Superb fingering on the violin from an actor who, prior to this movie, had never touched one - you'd swear he was really playing. It is very strong in both story telling and in acting. The story telling is subtle by the acting is so direct. "Ladies in Lavender" draws me, captivates me and touches me. I think this film deserves a wider audience. Now that I've seen the film, I want to move to Cornwall and live between the pubs and the ocean dancing and dreaming all day.....

Benny B (it) wrote: Someone get Soderbergh an editor! A film's quality is not determined by it's length.'Che - Part One' was highly engaging and informative, and watching Benicio Del Toro was like watching Robert De Niro back in his hayday. But this conclusive 'Part Two' is a plodding, bloated, unbearably long mess, with many, many, many shots of wandering around the Bolivian jungle, cobbled with trivial chit-chat, inter-burst with some rather perfunctory gun fights. I understand now why it was split in two parts; no one in their right mind would sit through four and half hours of aimless direction. I came away knowing nothing more about Che and his revolution than I already did going in. Historical events are interesting, and with the power of camera you can make even the mundane interesting... so make it bloody interesting, otherwise leave it on the cutting room floor. If it doesn't have a purpose, then it shouldn't be there.

Almost a prediction into the Columbine shooting Pfiffer agrees to teach a class of delinquents. starting off on a rocky start she gets into the minds of her students and develops hope, justice and friendship.such a compelling story, well addressed.

Brian B (gb) wrote: The War Lord based on a novel called The Lovers (I think) is an intelligent look at early medieval life. It portrays the arrival of a new Lord (Charlton Heston) and his interaction with the local, superstitious community. This is done reasonably well and one gets an idea of the tension between the 2 groups; the local Villagers both resenting and dependent on the Norman arrivals at the same time. This is heightened when the Norman Lord invokes the right of "Droit de Seigneur" which enables him to sleep with the Village Chief's daughter on the eve of her wedding. As an additional storyline a Freisan King's son is captured in an abortive raid which in turn provokes the final set piece battle where his father is trying to rescue him. All in all I feel this to be an excellently scripted film which gives a sense of the brooding atmosphere of the marshland fiefdom at the heart of the film. I recommend it.

Kevin M W (jp) wrote: The first five minutes of this James Bond parody sets the bar high for the rest of the film and that simply on the strength of it's numerous celebrity cameos. Mike Myers was soooo hot at one time he had the weight to pull this kinda talent (... and then "The Love Guru"). The rest though is more of the same channeling Benny Hill that the series is known for. There's a guilty chuckle or two in all of this silliness despite your valuable college philosophy degree.
