Humberto F (ru) wrote: Neeson owns the titular role in this absorbing epic from Irish filmmaker Neil Jordan. Lush cinematography and some stunning production design brings the viewer into this film like a time traveler witnessing history. There are some beautiful uses of blue in the photography of the film, especially in some foggy early morning shots. Neeson simply commands in this role with charisma and dogged determinism in his character. His chemistry with Aidian Quinn is excellent, making their falling out in the latter half of the film all the more poignant. Alan Rickman is rascally and adds remarkable ambiguity to Dev. The only failing of the movie lies with Roberts who has little to do in the movie and proves to be merely a time wasting distraction. Surely one of Neil Jordan's best films.
