Jonny P (br) wrote: "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is everything that you want from a comedy. Goofy characters, situational irony, slapstick humor, and a loud, dysfunctional family punctuate the Oscar-nominated script written by Nia Vardalos. Every joke in the script is delivered to perfection. Since the script is based on Vardalos' family and marriage to a non-Greek man, she was the obvious choice to play the lead and does so with absolute sincerity. A good movie transports you into its setting, but a great movie convinces you that it is truth. The jokes are fantastic from the main character's perpetually Greek upbringing to the father's excessive use of Windex as a household remedy. Laughing out loud is not an option with this over-the-top cast. Under the many layers of comedy, the film carries the important themes of embracing family (no matter how weird they are and being proud of where you came from. I love the tribute to "That Thing You Do," another film produced by Tom Hanks, by using and arrangement of the song "All My Only Dreams" for the first dance. It is no surprise that "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" is one of the highest grossing romantic comedies of all time and should be approached with the expectation of "extreme giddiness."
Shane D (nl) wrote: There are moments in this film that interest, Kim Basinger's overall performance is pretty decent and thats about it. Look Akroyd is good, Alyson Hannigan makes a fairly awkward debut and the overall story is typical of the 80s high concept. That's about it. You won't lose a huge amount of sleep if you haven't seen this and you won't miss out if you never do.
Ryan K (us) wrote: Simply put - it's an 80's movie. Cheesy in every aspect, the usual a**-kicking by "stud-man" Chuck Norris and as usual, he wins in the end. Good as an action film but just plain odd when it gets sentimental...

Jonathan G (mx) wrote: In the 80s any kind of movie could fly if marketed well. After the studio sat on this film for a while- the release and popularity of 'Back To The Future' soared Michael J. Fox into the limelight, and the studio guessed correctly to then release the shelved, 'Teen Wolf' to box office success. It's cheesy. It's silly. It's cliched and predictable- but it's also enjoyable. Rating: 7 / 10
Rob L (mx) wrote: A hard boiled thriller of the old school (are less edgy thrillers "scrambled" to continue the eggs analogy?), this is also a great portrait of New York in the transition zone between the optimism of the post-war years and the dystopian cityscapes of the Seventies. The acting is good throughout although that Bondesque habit of men in their fifites seducing and marrying much younger women is a tiresome feature of that age. The city looks sparse and dangerous with the subway somehow looking even less inviting than today.
