Ben L (us) wrote: We Are the Best was definitely different. I guess I expected more music or some sign that they were improving, but this film was more focused on the friendships. I liked the characters, and particularly liked the dynamic shift when Hedvig joined. I honestly didn't realize it was a foreign language film when I started, so that threw me for a loop. And I've discovered, for all the issues that I have with reading subtitles, that is magnified by a factor of a thousand when it comes to reading subtitles to songs. The English lyrics often don't flow with the music so I struggle to even read them while the music is playing. The girls they brought in for this film were very natural. It never felt like acting, almost as if the director just gave them a general outline of the scene and let them talk normal to each other. I also thought they had an interesting look with the punk haircuts and masculine clothes. I'll admit, I didn't know Bobo was a girl until someone said it aloud. We Are the Best was not a bad teen drama with a sprinkling of comedic moments. I cared about the characters and rooted for them along the way. The ups-and-downs of their friendships was totally engaging. I just wanted there to be a bit more focus on the music or something, and not the same 2 songs over and over again. The movie is not exactly my cup of tea, but it's well made.

Chani p (br) wrote: This started off so well and the animation is beautiful. But the film loses steam halfway through as you start to realize there is no real point to this story. Beautiful art, bad story choice.

Andy S (ru) wrote: A very charming biographical comedy/drama that is quite powerful without letting you know so until the final hammer drops. An intensely personal memoir that plays in the Woody Allen school of relational ups and downs. My favorite things was every time Caveh would break in and remind us that this was a film, especially when he would show us the real people the characters were based on. This is great independent cinema in a way that completely reminds me that art can happen in very interesting ways. A great find ( via Netflix streaming)

Theo M (us) wrote: The story of this movie is rather thin, but the scenery looks like a series of paintings by Vermeer. It's amazing how this movie brings 17th century Holland alive in every detail. Of course, t's no punishment to look at the pale face with blue-green eyes of Scarlett Johansson for an hour and a half either...

Ryan A (fr) wrote: While this film shows it's age somewhat in it's pacing, it is a tremendously powerful story, which is told with great acumen. I highly recommend this to any and all looking for a great film.

George P (ag) wrote: Zachary Scott and Bernie Hamilton give great performances in this beautifully authentic look at the pre-Civil Rights South. The film never rings a false note in telling this raw story of sexual tension and racial hatred.

Timeen (it) wrote: When I first saw this movie thought it was brutal, I guess when it first came out at those times this was considered brutal, but times have changed and this movie is very tamed now compared to others, it is a good movie.
