Is there room for principle in Los Angeles? Mike Terry teaches jujitsu and barely makes ends meet. His Brazilian wife, whose family promotes fights, wants to see Mike in the ring making money, but to him competition is degrading. A woman sideswipes Mike's car and then, after an odd sequence of events, shoots out the studio's window. Later that evening, Mike rescues an action movie star in a fistfight at a bar. In return, the actor befriends Mike, gives him a gift, offers him work on his newest film, and introduces Mike's wife to his own - the women initiate business dealings. Then, things go sour all at once, Mike's debts mount, and going into the ring may be his only option.

Demetris H (gb) wrote: Awesome fights but everything else kind of failed...I wasn't really expecting a groundbreaking storyline or amazing performances but the gaps between the fights were so long and drawn out that i ended up wishing it would end. Plus the ending is utterly dissapointing.

Paul N (mx) wrote: There's a rule that says shake a good film and 20 mins will fall out. In the case of this film, it needed a good 45 mins shaken out to make it punchy enough. Jake is great as ever, there was just too much of him and everybody else!

Curt F (nl) wrote: I am a big fan of Kiefer Sutherland and 24 but Kiefer doesn't choose his movies well. As talented as I think he is even he couldn't carry this flick.I can't recommend this and thought the plot was pretty dumb. Kiefer does play a flawed character well but the paranormal and supernatural stuff was laughable.Don't get me wrong, I have seen much worse. I have also seen much much better. This was very average at the best and that just doesn't cut it with me.

Om Puri's performance is stellar as usual. Though not a classic, this film is worth a watch.

Rob S (gb) wrote: When it comes to comedies, they tend to be hit-or-miss movies. The sense of humor that goes into comedies reaches some audiences while others find it distasteful. That being said, it can be safely said that Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a comedy for virtually everyone. It is even a good experience for children since there is really only one suggestive scene and it is very brief.Nearly every scene in this film is comic gold and very quotable. Who can forget the black night remarking "'tis but a flesh wound," the holy hand grenade, or even the opening scene (are you suggesting coconuts migrate)? Even great historical allusions are made for humor, such as a reference to the idea of the Trojan horse. The film also has a great sense of self-awareness and is very meta. The narrator comments on the animator at one point, a woman dressed in white refers to the script of the film, and the characters refer to specific scenes from earlier in the film. This is all in good fun and its self-awareness is primarily meant to add to the humor rather than commenting on art in general which more "serious" meta texts tend to do.However, this is a strange film when you take into account that from time to time in the film historians appear to briefly comment on the time period and are disregarded the next second as well as other people that are clearly not from the medieval time period becoming involved in the film. This aspect causes the film to end very strangely and abruptly. Monty Python and the Holy Grail would be stronger if it had a more definitive conclusion than the one it does.Filled with comedic gold, Monty Python and the Holy Grail is a very enjoyable experience.3.5/4.0

William James S (mx) wrote: I was compelled to watch this movie because I've been watching the excellent FX miniseries "Feud: Bette & Joan" which tells the story of the behind scenes relationship of the two actresses, who apparently hated each other. I originally saw "Baby Jane" when I was very young, but really couldn't remember that much about it. It's entertaining enough, but was made in a time when being subtle wasn't what being a movie star was all about, and both Davis and Crawford are very over the top as was the direction, but as it moves along it gets better and Davis had the flashy role, thus her Oscar nomination. They actually coined a saying out of this movie, "hags-ploytation", due to the unexpected success of "Baby Jane", which spawned such stellar films as "Hush, Hush Sweet Charlote" and "Straight Jacket" to name a few.
