Dillinger P (ru) wrote: Usually, when a film is best described as influenced by David Lynch, you just know the makers have used the genius directors title as an excuse to justify a bizarre premise, that more often than not, its labored and indeed aggravating to witness. Starry Eyes tries to steal from both Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan and David Lynch's Inland Empire, in such a obvious and forced way that if you are indeed a fan of either of those films, you will find yourself wanting to reach for the remote and erase it from your memory. A young woman called Sarah, aspires to become an actress, surrounding herself with the most vile and detestable friends imaginable, she struggles through auditions and finds herself getting nowhere. However when she replies to a bizarre horror companies advert, she soon finds herself chasing a role that will destroy her life and have her degrade herself to such an unimaginable level. Starry Eye's is not original, nor is it inventive, its premise and script are extremely forced and clearly takes too huge a chunk from the films that inspired it. The entire premise falls flat while watching due to just how horrific these characters are written and you try to come to terms with their laughable motivations, which are handled in such an typical teenage way that it is impossible to take this movie seriously. The performances are weak, right across the board, everyone is trying too hard from the word go, making Starry Eyes feel more like a student passion project than anything else. Annoyingly the film holds your interest just enough to see you through to the final frame, but its such a timid and lifeless affair that trying to think of a reason to watch it again, would probably take the entire films run time anyway. There is really not much else to say, its bland, it has nothing new to offer and it really isnt scary in the slightest. possibly more compitently made than some other films within the genre, but that can steer it away from the god awful script and unoriginal premise.

Michael W (de) wrote: Horrendous film where a caveman terrorizes campers. Low production values do not help matters. One can only assume they spent most of the budget in securing Cameron Mitchell and William Smith for supporting roles.
Daniel S (ag) wrote: very much a chicago film, filmed all throughout the city, from north side to south side to downtown, and featuring a lot of chicagoans-joan cusack, george wendt, adam baldwin, so i thought that was all very cool, as for the movie itself, its fine, nothing too original or groundbreaking but done well, i enjoyed the relationship that developed between linderman and clifford, and was definitely rooting for them to kick the shit out of matt dillon, who played an asshole very well, and a very nice score by the always talented dave grusin, if you're into chicago movies id definitely recommend it
Jacob K (mx) wrote: While having the originality to call it a prehistoric crocodile and not some genetically modified beast makes the movie less of a movie to come from this decade. But still has the indecency to steal from really what could have just been a jurassic park but it got let loose.
