That, and every once and a while, one of those dozen angst movies rises above the routine story line with superb acting, or with honest heart, or genuine charm. This fulfills all three. Plus, admittedly Steinfeld has been a favorite of mine since True Grit. This movie deepens the case for a hopefully Oscar-filled future. And Harrelson was amazing, too (seriously -- couldn't have imagined anyone else filling the role so expertly).

She plays a textile worker in a grim village somewhere in the Irish midlands who sleepwalks at night and becomes embroiled in the murder of a young local girl. I must confess to being a fan of the elliptical school of film-making. Some of it's best recent practitioners have been female directors, Andrea Arnold and Julia Leigh deploying it expertly in "Red Road" and "Sleeping Beauty". This is a girl's club Rebecca Daly won't be joining however. Being pretentious is fine if you have the creativity to back it up but this writer-director most certainly doesn't. It starts promisingly enough with a very engaging performance by Campbell-Hughes, an English actress who manages to pull off a perfect Irish midlands accent. Quickly though you realise Daly is leading you nowhere, it's the type of movie that could have ended at any point without making much difference to the overall narrative, what little there is. Ireland has produced a lot of acting talent lately but the performances here are atrocious. There's so much wooden acting here you'll be brushing sawdust off your shoulders by the end. The Irish Film Board are a disgrace to this country. It's practically impossible for an Irish film-maker to get funding from them but if you're third generation "Oirish" from across the sea like Daly or the McDonagh brothers they'll bend over backwards for you. Nobody in Britain would touch a script as bad as this but play on your heritage like a third rate footballer and the IFB are your new best friends. Surely someone on this island can do better than this garbage.

Boring because it's muddled plot, almost plotless to say the least and pointless fabrication about the invasion of Anzio, Italy (one of the worst casualities in the history of Italy) that was supposedly come from a book written by Wynford Vaughan-Thomasin and is faithful by principal only, since the story throughout is inconsistent eg: on one scene, the Robert Mitchum character understands Italian language enough to speak it, then on the next scene, he doesn't understand it at all! Although much of the cast is by Italian casting playing both German and American roles, the movie stars Robert Mitchum as the war hero reporter, Peter Falk and Arthur Kennedy and veteran actor Robert Ryan (The Wild Bunch) whose only presence is for no more than 5 minutes throughout the entire film- 3 minutes at the beginning 2 minutes at the end! The only thing I can see that the well known actors got from this experience, is the free trip to beautiful Italy! It's borderline 'spaghetti western' tone because of dubbing and musical score timing! What a waste of time to watch this, which if it wasn't for the short 'synopsis' at the back of the actual VHS case- I wouldn't been able to understand any of it at all! 1 out of 4

A very unlikely encounter that turns into something rare and beautiful, totally improvised and therefore impossible to repeat. A moment. With a fine acting by Bonnaire and Gamblin.
