Brandon S (fr) wrote: It's structured poorly, it flows weird, and some of the plot points are difficult to follow, but it's all forgivable for me because the acting and the cinematography are both so great. As soon as I saw Jeffrey Dean Morgan on the box I was psyched, but when I saw Sam Worthington my heart sank. I was convinced he would be what that sends this film screeching off the road, but he really was very good. Jessica Chastain was of course fantastic as well, and so was Stephen Graham, but someone I was really disappointed in was Jason Clarke. That guy is a genius, and he really let me down with this one. Overall it was forgettable, but it was a fantastic debut for Ami Canaan Mann.

Michael H (fr) wrote: This is one of those movies that I'm glad I watched it, but I'm not sure I could watch it a second time. The movie goes from slapstick comedy to drama. The first half is definitely the more watchable than the second half.

Kevin S (kr) wrote: This film is one of my guilty pleasures. I love it but I'm not sure I want the rest of the world to know that. I've seen this film several times and I never tire of the performances. Dreyfuss is exceptional, Mercedes Ruehl is WONDERFUL, but its the younger actors, Brad Stoll and Mike Damus, that steal the show. It's not great cinema but it sure is fun to watch.

Naomi G (mx) wrote: One in a long line of James Cagney mobster movies and one of his best. The emotional instability of Cagney's gangster is a perfect role for the intense style of acting Cagney favored. And of course there's the famous line Cagney delivers while at the precipice of oblivion: "Look at me ma! I'm on the top of the world!"

Aaron N (au) wrote: this is a very good movie but i think it's a one time only type of movie because it's terrible what's happens to him at the very end and it's a true story. i'm not saying that what he did was perfect but i wished people had the mind like Chris mccandless and instead of his parents where it's all materialistic bullshit. but overall this movie is a definitely sold B or B+
