Matthew L (mx) wrote: An epic all star cast driven World War 2 drama that tells both sides of a decisive battle in the Pacific. I can't fault the production values of this film or the conscious effort to portray each side in an equal and honest light. But at over two hours long and with numerous characters there is so much going on that at times its difficult to keep up. Maybe today if the story was to be retold then taking a leaf out of Eastwoods book and splitting the film in two might suit the historical events better.

Jerry O'Neill (Donald Sutherland): You can call me [kisses her hand] Jerry O'Neill (Donald Sutherland): anytime. I truly wanted to like this movie especially with the stellar cast behind it but the story was stale and predictable. Some of the actors didn't seem to have their hearts in their individual roles, most of the characters are not really memorable or convincing except for Donald Sutherland, who was really cute and charming as the token "ladies man"-- he definitely needs to do more roles likes that. The next time its on, I think I'll skip it....
