Tim S (it) wrote: Maniac Cop 2 picks up right where the original Maniac Cop left off. A slight bit of time has passed, but we're still with the same characters who quickly meet their fates as we realize that the crazed policeman is back for more vengeance upon the people who wronged him and clean up the streets with his own brand of justice. Although many feel that this film is better than the original (including the director), I would have to disagree. The film is enjoyable and has some great stuff in it, including Leo Rossi's character, but it doesn't seem to have as much teeth to the drama as the first film. We start to feel more sympathy for the character, and that's always a mistake in sequels to horror movies, if you ask me. His look is a bit sillier this time around, too. This is another fine cast though: Robert Davi, Claudia Christian, Michael Lerner, Leo Rossi, Charles Napier, and a small part by Clarence Williams III. Both Bruce Campbell and Laurene London return to reprise their roles from the first film though. Robert Z'Dar returns to his role, and there's even a cameo by Sam Raimi. All things considered, the film is a lot of fun, but it's not nearly as memorable and as dynamic as the first. But it's definitely a better sequel than the one that followed.
