In late 1940s Yorkshire, England, ambitious young man Joe Lampton (Laurence Harvey), who has just moved from the dreary factory town of Dufton, arrives in Warnley, to assume a secure, but poorly-paid, post in the Borough Treasurer's Department. Determined to succeed, and ignoring the warnings of a colleague, Soames (Donald Houston), he is drawn to Susan Brown (Heather Sears), daughter of the local industrial magnate, Mr. Brown (Donald Wolfit). He deals with Joe's social climbing by sending Susan abroad; Joe turns for solace to Alice Aisgill (Simone Signoret), an unhappily married older woman who falls in love with him.

Jessi t (es) wrote: An overly artful view of a gritty, disgusting, fascinating subject. That is, a man being fucked to death by a horse. The attempt to make the subject matter tasteful in its portrayal in the doc really turned me off to the whole experience quite a bit. This is a flick you go into expecting to be repulsed and delighted at the same time. Oh well.

While some may say it's to sentimental, sentimental to me means sugary without substance, but this movie has everything to back up its sentmentality. It's the kind of movie that for me, makes me feel like I'm 7 years old, bundled up in cozy blankets, listening to my mother tell me a wonderful story. In my top 5 movies of all time.

Without dwelling too long on Cocoon #1, we can observe that it ended with a group of senior citizens heading for the distant planet of Antarea, hoping to find a new, rewarding and elongated life. Cocoon 2 picks up the action five years later: The Antareans return to earth to check on the damage caused to their life-regenerating cocoons by earthquakes. Coming along for the ride are the elderly couples whom we met in the first film. Also carried over from the first Cocoon are young ferryboat captain Steve Guttenberg and gorgeous Antarean Tahnee Welch, who resume their interplanetary romance. Oldster Jack Gilford, whose beloved wife died in Cocoon, likewise finds romance in the form of Elaine Stritch. A secondary plot involves an insidious secret government plan to exploit the Antareans, which is foiled by sympathetic researcher Courteney Cox.

Chris B (ru) wrote: Another solid Zatoichi film, Zatoichi The Fugitive once again follow Zatoichi as he is pursued and must do the right thing in order to protect and help the helpless and defend himself from those wanting him dead. This entry is a little slow paced in the first half but picks up and introduces a very formidable enemy that, for a while, is Zatoichi's equal in battle. There is some great and very well done battle choreography in the grand final duel that is simply awesome!
