Roots: The Gift

In December 1775, Cletus Moyer is a free black Northerner in colonial America, helping slaves escape captivity. In the days just prior to Christmas, a group of bounty hunters captures Moyer. Because of his capture, dozens of slaves who have already left their plantations are in danger of being captured as well. Moyer implores two slaves from a nearby plantation to take his place: Kunta Kinte, a Mandinka in his mid-twenties who was captured in what is now Gambia, and Fiddler, an elderly man who was born into slavery. Kunta is eager to help (and to escape himself), but Fiddler is unwilling, fearful of the consequences if they are caught.

Tor M (br) wrote: A light-weight giallo homage, also an avant-guard piece. The story is not easy to explain, but I can give it a go. We meet a young girl - where the story is the most scary. Later we meet her as a young woman - now it's turning more sensual. At last we see her as a woman - now a sensual, macabre and even tenser film. A house is central here, with an elder dead guy, a hidden person and her mysterious parents inside. As a kid she seem scared of them, but she revisit the place when she is older. It's masterfully structured when it comes to the narrative and presentation. Sublime close-ups, almost macro style, mostly of her face or body. There is always tension and danger here. Great cuts and pretty shots. Fast driven visual production, but still slow in pace. Neat effects and a filmtechnical fest. There is always a heavy focus on the visual and audial aspects here - both mixed superbly. The useage of silence is fantastic.Sadly there is nothing much too it than images and sound but that is what cinema is all about after all.8 out of 10 lips.

The fast food company replies by saying there is no proof that this was the leading and only cause for this issue. Spurlock decides to prove them wrong by eating McDonalds for 30 days straight, 3 meals a day.He embarks on his journey and starts eating McDonalds 3 times a day across the country with his first meal being a mcmuffin. Within 3 days he is already vomiting from eating a supersized quarter pounder with cheese combo meal. He goes on and claims his health gets consistently worse. Doctors start begging him to stop his diet. Supersize Me is an entertaining film that drives the point that we already know. Everyone knows that fast food isn't healthy and that eating it 3 meals a day is by no means a good idea. Even in doing this he exaggerates his results and never mentions each of his meals in a log or anything. The film still makes some good points on how fast food is advertised and forced on the American public. The man who eats only Big Macs, around twice a day was quite an interesting find. All the fatties being shown across the film and one man mentions how we cannot comment on this, but it is okay to chastise a smoker was one of the best scenes. -3.12.2017

Movie K (es) wrote: Got the chance to watch this movie again after many years. This is a nice, funny family movie. Really enjoyable. The score by Bill Conti is also chippy good. Daniel Stern is a delivery guy and as usual went to a mansion to deliver a package. Nobody is there and he saw fire in the kitchen. FBI agent Jon Polito arrive but knock down by his partner and the gun slide to Daniel. He escape and is wanted for the murder. Ask his boss to check the delivery record. One that is sending to a cabin in mountain top. 6 kids scouts (among them 1 girl) are going to have a weekend camp with veteran scout leader Brad Sullivan. Daniel stole a car and parked at a handicap lot. The news shows his wanted face and he glue Brad to the stolen car steering and drive Brad's humvee. Thinking he is the scout leader, Daniel is made to bring the kids to hike. He tell them to walk straight and he evaluate them in the woods. But he got spook and lost his way, ending up in front of them. The cops stop Brad thinking it is the criminal. Daniel saw the sign to his destination Devil's Peak and heading there, despite the high level of difficulty. He lie to the kids they will get all their batches if they can reach there. Brad lead the trek for Jon to hunt Daniel. when he saw a bear, he fainted. The kids thought he is playing dead. Continue their hike, they stop for a pee break. Drench onto Jon at below who thought it is raining. Daniel make the kids run across the long wooden bridge. 1 boy is scared and stuck. Daniel make him say out he is brave and make it across. He then chop off the ropes holding the bridge. They decide to stop and camp. Daniel mistake a beehive as pine cone for fire starting and sting. 1 boy got a playboy mag and they want Daniel to explain the birds and the bees. He uses the girl's doll and demostrate, much to the horror of the kids. Campfire story Daniel tell the kids about how a guy is paid to make delivery which is actually his own story, they say he is dumb to take up such a fishy offer. 1 boy overhear the radio talking about them held hostage and Daniel is a criminal. Reece L (es) wrote: "Wake in Fright" is a straightforward, artful, and mesmerizing documentation of a man's descent into social and psychological ruin, the prim and pretty John's trip to a new town quickly turning into a nightmarish, booze-soaked trap from which he can't escape. It's a compelling almost-horror story and a classic of Australian cinema that slowly reveals the animalistic tendencies that lurk beneath our studied and performed exteriors.

John R (es) wrote: 130124: There are some really fun special effects in this film, and then there are some really poor special effects in this film. King Kong's battle scene where he takes on the meat eaters is great but I found many other scenes looked fake. The islanders are down right scary looking, expecially if you're eight. This movie is long, the first hour being a bit slow. It picks up from there though and is satisfying enough not to feel as though you wasted three hours.
