Chris S (nl) wrote: Not as good as Donnie's films by far. This feels less like the believable Ip Man history and more like the reality-stretching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon mythical action film with a little Matrix-style moments thrown in for who knows what good reason. Story itself is decent.

It's characters are lovable and the humor is top notch, especially for a kids show. This movie made me gain much more respect for the two wacky brothers from Danville and that adorable platypus. Top notch animation, great acting, a great story, and HILARIOUS jokes all the way through, 'Across the 2nd Dimension' really delivers on what it promised, if not more.

Eric O (it) wrote: i think this was supposed to be funny. it has some moments but the flow between storylines and the unnecessary excuses to get women as scantily clad as possible (oh, we're stuck in an elevator, and, oh, its so convenient that it also happens to be amidst a heat wave....LETS STRIP). disappointing.also, i dont know if its the lighting or the cinematography or what, but it just looks like a porno

Johnny B (it) wrote: A low key but charming story about a girl who goes off with her friend's boyfriend. An interesting slice of everyday life in late 80's France. Great use of the new town of Cergy-Pontoise on the outer fringes of Paris as a location. The characters mention that they can see the Eiffel Tower in the distance from their stylish but souless housing developments but the grit and bustle of the metropolis is a world away.
Eric B (fr) wrote: Unlike the florid soap operas Pedro Almodovar has been scripting in recent years, "Dark Habits" has a simple plot. Struggling lounge singer Yolanda (Cristina Sanchez Pascual) accidentally kills her lover with strychnine-laced heroin, and decides to hide from the police in a convent ("The Community of Humble Redeemers"). The story's forward motion mostly ends there, as the film becomes a perverse look at Yolanda's interaction with the nuns. See, these are not typical nuns. Their home has recently lost its prime benefactor, and they're struggling to pay the bills. This is especially difficult, given all the money they're spending on heroin, acid and cocaine. Not to mention raw meat for the pet tiger who lives on the grounds. But maybe the blackmail threat will pay off, or maybe the nun who writes popular pulp novels under a pen name can contribute some funds. It's just too bad their adopted names are so alienating. Would you trust your soul to Sister Damned, Sister Snake, Sister Manure and Sister Rat of the Sewers? In the end, "Dark Habits" comes off a bit juvenile, as if Almodovar is just delighting in being naughty. This impression becomes hard to shake from the moment we see a nun vomit. Luckily, Almodovar's explorations of the profane became more subtle with passing years.Note: I was disappointed to learn that the DVD version (what I saw) is about 18 minutes shorter than the earlier theatrical/VHS cut. I'd still like to track down the original version.

Among those who volunteer in Foster's unit, willingly or unwillingly, is "the Gypsy" Marco Segrain (Terence Hill), a charming jewel thief famous for a three-year crime spree on the Riviera until French authorities managed to apprehend him. Gypsy befriends three other recruits: the Russian giant Ivan (Jack O'Halloran), formerly a member of the elite bodyguard of the deposed Russian Imperial family; "Top Hat" Gilbert Francis (Andr Penvern), a fashionable man and musician who lacks the physical traits needed in a soldier; and Fredrick Hastings (Paul Sherman), a romantic young English aristocrat who missed the Great War. The four friends are soon disillusioned by the harsh realities of life in the Legion. When the unit arrive in Erfoud they are encountered by the Arab leader El Krim (Ian Holm). El Krim was promised earlier by Foster that there would be no further archeological excavations and yet this is exactly what is occuring. Thus El Krim will not allow this to happen and suddenly Major Foster has a massive threat on his hand to handle...Never seen "March Or Die" and I bought it on a whim due to the strong cast, well minus Terence Hill... Unfortunately, this is pretty much a failed try to create an epic sort of movie in the line of "Lawrence Of Arabia". I still wonder who thought it was a good idea to put Terence Hill in one of the leading roles. What I hated the most about the movie was this crappy slapsticky sort of humour that runs through the whole movie and just ruins what Gene Hackman, Max Von Sydow and Catherine Deneuve tries to achieve with their solid acting skills. "March Or Die" just becomes completely unbalanced and painful to watch at times. The intentions were there, but the endresult is something else.
