Jennifer R (jp) wrote: A deeply flawed but deeply funny movie. Jittlov's animation work is artistic and moving, and his social commentary on the soul-crushing business of Hollywood is classic, if a bit cliched. The acting is better than it has any right to be, and the details are exquisite.
Marco F (it) wrote: If you think you have seen the worst movie in history- you probably have not seen EEGAH. If you have, then nobody can deny it is way, way down there with the very worst movies ever made. It is completely hopeless. But believe me- if you like bad movies- particularly bad story ideas for movie, this film must be a staple at any bad movie festival. In addition to being one of the worst movies ever made, EEGAH must also have one of the 2 or 3 worst ideas ever committed to a motion picture. This movie is about a prehistoric caveman living in 1960's Southern California who somehow has managed to survive modern times; he comes across a pretty girl, and falls in love with her. He then tries to endear himself to her semi-successfully, and while trying to get her back after she is rescued he runs into trouble along the way. Does that sound familiar? Thought so. I too spent most of my time on the floor laughing at this movie, leaving the actual picture out of my perhiperal vision. But I picked up enough of the film to realize rather quickly that it is a blatant rip-off of KING KONG, but with a super-sized caveman instead of a super-sized gorilla. Unlike a few other films I've seen, this movie is actually comprehensible. You can actually follow it, and it is rather simplistic in its nature. What mainly makes this film as hilariously bad as it is is how flawed the story is right from its conception. There is no way anyone could have made this movie any good. It has to be one of the most staggeringly stupid movies ever made. While watching it, I just could not believe how bad it was. There is not a shred of originality or believability in it. A caveman? Living in modern times? What were these people thinking when they made it? Every single scene in this movie is so awkward, so forced, and so hilariously incompetent, and the titular character's voice is epically funny- it sounds like someone high on acid trying to talk with their mouth full of food. None of the stars are appealing or can act- there isn't a good performance in this movie- except maybe Richard Kiel, who plays the titular character- who of course went on to immortality by playing the steel-toothed villain Jaws in 2 James Bond films. In addition to the atrocious production values and the abysmally bad filmmaking, two of the most inept bits of the movie are the writing and the directing. Both are abysmal in equal measure and both were done by the same person- but the writing makes absolutely no sense. Nobody is surprised to see this prehistoric caveman- or even intelligent enough to first recongize him- and when he dies, they are all sort of in wonderment- and even after the physically abusive treatment this caveman levies on the main female character, she very unnaturally and strangely likes this abusive treatment and begins to fall for him. This is not only unbelievable; but hilarious- this character is a completely boring bimbo, and it is impossible to care about her- or the movie in general, for that matter. And the relationship between Eegah and the girl is handled so badly and so stupidly- nothing about it is believable. The ending is prime evidence of this movie's theft of KING KONG. About 30 seconds of viewing what is one of the worst endings in movie history, there is just no way anyone can disassociate the two films. Movies this bad deserve their own exhibit in a bad movie museum. The Mystery Science Theater 3000 episode of this film makes this film even more fun to watch- really- only see the MST3K version of this movie.
