Penny M (us) wrote: Paper Planes is a fantastic film depicting the important values of determination, patience, hope and commitment. The characters have a very strong backstory in most cases. Dylan is struggling with always being second best and being bullied. Jack, Dylan's father, is experiencing grief. Kimi just wants her friends to be happy, Jason wants to win, Jason's father wants to be respected by his son. Kevin is a reformed bully who became good "mates" with Dylan. This is a great family film for children and parents to watch together.

Reece L (us) wrote: The thing that first hits home about Sex, Lies, and Videotape is the quietly penetrative mood (made possible through a smart use of silence) that acts as a conduit for every subsequent compelling interaction or piece of dialogue. Through this mood, Soderbergh generates a legitimately sexy, funny, and real piece of entertainment with subtle dramatic elements of the story allowed to unfold naturally, therefore makes them more effective. The deeply intelligent screenplay drives everything expertly, with naturalistic performances from supremely capable players (there's an extended conversation between McDowell and Spader that's absolutely riveting) communicating its subtle comments on the ways in which sexuality and deception motivate the most mundane of relationships with grace and poignancy. The "first" independent film remains one of the greatest even after nearly three decades and deserves to be considered a benchmark for the genre as it continues to evolve.

Geoff C (us) wrote: Hysterical. The characters are reversed from the expected. Don Knotts is the level headed man, and Griffith is the Buffoon. I love it.

Michael W (gb) wrote: Burt brings back the action as a cop with a call girl under his constant surveillance; an assignment he brings a certain dedication to. Vice must not be hurting for manpower, given the man-hours devoted here on some rather loose evidence. Fine time-waster but not much more.
