The administration (and abuse) of this concept will occasionally become an issue; don't shoot the messenger.Oliver stone deals with this chapter of history evenly and fairly. His film is (quite accurately) more about the sheer weight of burgeoning technology than any particular ethical issue.

Tim K (mx) wrote: Holy smokes. Make sure you watch the unrated version. I started with the Redbox "Hatchet" job, and it was no fun at all. The over the top stuff is what is truly the MEAT of this movie. Make sure to check it out that way ONLY. Still not a huge slasher fan, but this one is entertaining enough for a Halloween weekend horror film binge.

Ebony W (nl) wrote: Horrible movie. Nothing happened until like an hour into the film. Your left bored not on edge and sit waiting for it to end.

Carolyn G (nl) wrote: I did like this movie but felt that Tamahori squandered a stellar ensemble cast. In fact, it was the cast that kept me engaged and not the plot or the meandering dialogue. How can you not pay attention with the likes of Michael Madsen, Chazz Palminteri and Jennifer Connelly moving across the screen?

Graham M (ca) wrote: Works far better as a comedy than a thriller. Plotwise not much going on but when you watch the actors "interacting" with the lions, it becomes clear how so many people were injured during production; that alone makes it a unique viewing experience.

Shaun B (es) wrote: An art house experiment that is nearly perfect in execution by one of the kings of surreal and weird, Dusan Makavejev. A bit long in places due to the old talkie and some odd placements of commercials, but this is not weird merely for the quirks, but also to subvert the authorities and help tell the story of Yugoslavia and its eventual separation into new countries. Really amazing stunts by the lead actor. A really fun movie experience that will be an odd ride for most.

Luciano G (it) wrote: The movie is enjoyable and valuable in several respects..... the photography is very beautiful and the actors recite their part in proper way, through a history that goes smoothly until the end......it 'a nice love story, with a good pinch of mystery with a remarkable soundtrack....maybe nothing new or surprising, but certainly a nice movie, worth to be enjoyed.....

Bethany C (ca) wrote: I have to say, I'm really not normally into gross-out horror. But this is so skillfully done, I'm glad I finally got around to watching it. There were quite a few moments I genuinely laughed out loud, so while it wasn't scary (because gross-out isn't scary to me), the combination of gross and comedy was really intelligent.Something else I found intelligent, and I may have been seeing what I wanted to see, were the subtle feminist messages. Stuff like the teenaged girl being the only one in her family to survive because she was able to kill the worm with inherently feminine things, such as a long manicure and a hair straightener. And when the same teenage girl saves the police chief, I thought it was both funny and pointed of the film to make a point of saying the male chief would claim that victory for himself. All in all, despite the weird premise, I didn't find the gore boring and pointless. It was funny, entertaining, and sexual metaphors actually disturbed me a little. Anytime something is done to a woman's body without her consent (including and especially when things are inserted) it reads a metaphor of rape to me, and those always disturb me. It was an excellent movie.
