School of Rock
Fired from his band and hard up for cash, guitarist and vocalist Dewey Finn finagles his way into a job as a fourth-grade substitute teacher at a private school, where he secretly begins teaching his students the finer points of rock 'n' roll. The school's hard-nosed principal is rightly suspicious of Finn's activities. But Finn's roommate remains in the dark about what he's doing.
Down and out rock star Dewey Finn gets fired from his band, and he faces a mountain of debts and depression. He takes a job as a 4th grade substitute teacher at an uptight private school where his attitude and hijinx have a powerful effect on his students. He also meets Zack, a 10-year-old guitar prodigy, who could help Dewey win a "battle of the bands" competition, which would solve his financial problems and put him back in the spotlight. . (de) wrote: Appalling disaster movie, with appalling use of CGI, and terrible cast i couldn't give a monkey's toss about.
(au) wrote: A really tired plot, generic characters (repressed nerd and wacky trouble girl) and constant twists that are too weakly executed to surprise... and yet the damn movie references 3 of my all time favorite movies in the first 20minutes. So i kept watching and actually enjoyed the movie despite so really poorly executed turns and messy dialogue. The constant movie references of the opening sadly dried up (or went mostly over my head later) as did the fun side characters who are reduced to feeder lines and background. Cillian predictably shines through the mess and Liu predictably struggles to be be convincing dangerous.

Joya.

(us) wrote: Overlong and repetitive screenplay. O'Toole is charismatic. Followed Lawrence's disillusionment with his Arab followers, but he must have been equally disillusioned with the deception of the British and French. This is referred to but Lawrence is largely left out of it and we are made to believe his disillusionment is more to do with the Arabs rather than the politicians. I think the reverse is probably truer. To see him confront those who betrayed his ideals would have given balance to the movie. The motorbike death is portrayed as an accident. I had the impression that it was not. In all, Lawrence was probably even more fascinating than he is here. His probable homosexuality is never referred to (his masochism is hinted at).I watched the 218 mins. DVD.Middle-East still a battlefield 100 years on.Forgot to mention the great performance of Omar Sharif who matches O'Toole perfectly. Worth watching for these 2 performances alone.
(es) wrote: An interesting plotline that was probably ahead of its time in regards to seeing how a mistake can lead to corruption. A borderline corrupt cop in a fit of rage accidentally kills a murder suspect then tries to pin the murder on another murderer. The cop figures, hey, he's wanted for several other crimes, why not one more? Sounds like something you'd hear on a Law & Order episode, only there are no black or latino drug dealers to pin the crime on this time. As the cop's decision to put the blame off on another criminal blows up in his face, the plot takes off and is rather interesting for a 1950s film. The intro to this movie was really stupid (the guy walking over the chalk on the sidewalk, yippeee), but other than that was a very enjoyable movie to watch...if you can handle the uber-cliched 1950s copper dialogue. Take that with Immodium.

(kr) wrote: It wasn't too bad but it's one of those movies that tries too hard to be different. Schwartzman was pretty entertaining.
(fr) wrote: The Man with the Iron Fists displays a mindless reverence for the kung-fu genre. It's a bloody mess of knives, gore, and iron, and you can love it or hate it.
