Andrew M (ca) wrote: Searching for Sugar Man is a well-made and absolutely fascinating documentary, considering its rather obscure subject. Without going too in depth about the film's subject matter in order to preserve the mystery it presents, this documentary is a surprisingly engaging, and often emotionally resonating film that presents a very impactful theme by the time it concludes. Director Malik Bendjelloul crafts a beautiful story using minimalist style, including some impressive animated sequences, that really adds to the film. Bendjelloul even had to resort to filming using a smart phone app after running low on his budget during production, but it never shows. Searching for Sugar Man is a must-see for any music fan, and most definitely deserves its Best Documentary Feature Oscar.

But in its defense I think this era (predominately 70s exploitation) are the most widely recognized sub-genres the general audience would be most familiar with. The doc really does give a more broader overview of things we, especially me, wouldn't have recognized or even consider part of exploitation flicks and giving different sides of how such films are accepted: influential, trash, entertainment, offensive, and just plain art.

Young kids wouldn't have a clue about the space race and many old enough to remember it wouldn't be watching this without grandchildren. A tidy product, but not really all that entertaining. I didn't see it in 3D so lost those thrills too. Warning for younger kids - the terrified monkey seen through the rocket window as it blast off into space is not for the overly sensitive child - they'll want to know that he lived and the best lie in the world won't be that convincing. What the heck was that doing in this movie?!??

Noah R (ca) wrote: Very flat story line. Superficial and yes very predictable.

Nathan A (mx) wrote: An intense, revenge fueled shooter. Though it's a side point of the film, a surprisingly good expose on human trafficking.

Poot T (fr) wrote: THIS MOVIE IS TOO GOOD! While I admit that it has some weird moments ,(dogs in airplanes) the perfect combination of emotional, funny, and creative moments to make it my favorite Pixar movie.

Dave R (fr) wrote: fun to watch but in my opinion not as good as the pam grier flicks: "coffy" and "foxy brown". cleo is some sort of agent for the u.s. government but she returns home to LA to protect a halfway house/shelter that is important to her, which is part of a plan to kill her. in turkey she destroyed a poppy field that belonged to an LA crime boss named mommy... it's a crazy story really.

Benjamin W (br) wrote: Surprising how a journalist ends up acting a lot more like a private detective, given the right motivation. Still, this film is full of excitement, twists, turns, and some humor just for good measure.
