Lee M (gb) wrote: It's easy to appreciate Kevin Bacon's performance and the good intentions of ``Digging to China,'' the directorial debut of actor Timothy Hutton. But this cloying, superficial story about a developmentally disabled man who is befriended by a lonely 10-year-old girl ends up forced and predictable.

Albert Finney stars in a tour de force performance about a man working the factory, being a womanizer and still living with his parents in post war Brittain. Entertaining, and the black and white Cinematography looks polished and refined (not like the era they were living in).
