Patrik M (ca) wrote: Excellent, original concept for a movie. Sometimes you'll find yourself watching and wondering if it is real or not, who is shooting who, really thinking who is what. A fun movie by the director Johnny To, but sometimes I found myself really wondering what is going on, I missed a little more smoothness in the passing between the scenes.

Dj N (br) wrote: This movie tries hard to look and feel like a great Sci-fi film, but it never truly delivers. The film tries to pack 3 hours worth of story into 91 minutes.

Susan P (au) wrote: "Do you have 'Hot Pants College'?" This movie is a very funny and and compassionate portrayal of an English intellectual who conceives a passion for a young American matinee idol. The script is so scrupulously fair to its characters, never letting itself fall victim to easy stereotypes or lazy shortcuts. It's also very witty, and the acting is just superb. I think it's worth seeing just to see and hear John Hurt carefully enunciate the words 'Hot Pants College 2'.

Rameshwar I (kr) wrote: Deftly reminded me a movie of a similar theme 'The Player' which I enjoyed rather more. Features a generic but a very effective modern background score that is tense and runs as an undercurrent to an ocean of subplots (some more meaningless than the others) which underwhelms the atmosphere it tried to build. The performances were superb especially Gere in the lead role and an actress I have come to admire recently, Brit Marling. A trading empire magnate Robert Miller (Richard Gere) is in the process to sell off his company in haste that is sitting on a huge pile of cooked accounts showing fraudulent numbers. With his business experience, contacts and shrewd mind, he thought he could get away without giving a whiff of the fraud to his nonchalant wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon) or his brilliant daughter Brooke (Brit Marling). When all things are falling into plan an accident kills Julie (Laetitia Casta) a woman with whom he has a clandestine affair. When Robert looks for an unlikely person for help, a detective Michael (Tim Roth) picks the scent of him and is coming close to rocking his boat. What I first liked about his one is that it is not one a movie that shies away from worldly themes of good over evil or a climax with a moral epiphany. Next comes the frenetic screenplay that doesn't give you the breathing space to linger on the numerous flaws along the way. Performances and background score elevate the movie even more boosted by its slick editing. Tense atmosphere with a frenetic screenplay leaves you with a gasp to catch your breath.

James D (au) wrote: "The Rover," a film after a economic epidemic, a wasteland of Australia, and nothing to do but fend for your lives. Sounds like it could be an exciting film, one that almost looked like a "Mad Max" post apocalyptic film. Well, not so much here. The film is in that genre, but not with the intensity, nor the explosions and action. This is more of a drama take on that idea, and it wasn't bad, I was just somewhat bored.Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson saved this film from a bad review. The performances they put forth are quite impressive. Although, I'm main,y impressed with Pattinson, he plays a mentally challenged man who is taken by Pearce's character to find the brother who stole his car and left his special brother behind to die. I wasn't aware Partinson had it in him to take on a role such as this, but I was impressed. The plot is simple, a man wants revenge on the man who stole his vehicle, and the on,u way to him is to take in his brother and find him. It's slow, it's quiet, the music is great but the pace of the film started off too slow. It does gradually pick up, but more so towards the end of the film when all the action happens. There's a few action scenes, but they aren't full of explosions or huge fights or gun play. It was a pretty laid back film, and I think that's why I got bored with it and slowly lost interest. In its own right, it's a good film, I like the idea, I liked the actors picked, and I liked the cinematography. It's beautifully shot, and the composer did an excellent job with the music and sound. I'm just not sure I'd ever watch it again, I saw it, I kind of liked it, but I won't be spending another hour and a half of my life on this film. Sorry Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson, you just couldn't fully save the film. 3/5 JD
