A kid who's been abandoned by his father and lives in a state home is fostered on weekends by a hairdresser. His desperate need for affection from a father figure leads to dramatic and violent acting out, and she tries to cope. There's not a lot more to this film, but there's a kind of poetic realism at play in it that drives out a lot from a very small amount of plot. The performance they get from Thomas Doret as the boy is fairly incredible ... he really dominates the film.

I was especially surprised at how little I knew about Georgian political history, as well as the current issues faced by this tiny former Soviet nation. Very well done, certainly worth the education:)

(es) wrote: sequel to a cult classic never reaching the same heights of the original but still pretty whacky with some great effects for the relative small budget.brian yuzna was a great choice to take the franchise forward his film always seem out there. of course the acting isnt exactly great from anyone though combs is his mental self
(mx) wrote: Atrocious acting (even from Christopher Lee), terrible special effects, horrible dialogue and terrible writing. It really is a poor man's NeverEnding Story.
(ca) wrote: Like "Beat Street" and "Breakin'" (although these films proceeded this groundbreaking tale), "Wild Style" is flawed because of the inherent nature of film itself- mostly due to the sometimes bad acting and weird editing (not to mention the non-existent story). But this was the first mainstream film to capture the hip-hop movement in NY perfectly- there's no better place to see some amazing performances, cool art and great dancing. Too bad that the film itself is underwhelming.
(it) wrote: An epic masterpiece on a massive scale that covers every major theme imaginable, it contains countless extraordinary and profound scenes and images. Be warned though, it is also very brutal and difficult to watch in parts, there are one or two sequences that viewers will find objectionable. Still, it is unmissable and fully deserves all of the praise that it gets.
