Tyler S (au) wrote: Real good cast, but the subject matter about has been drag queens wasn't my cup of tea. That and it wasn't funny.

Daniel S (gb) wrote: Surprised I'd never seen this one until now, very humorous and enjoyable.

Nick M (br) wrote: What a strange movie; it has so many ways to fail, but I can watch it any time.

Grant S (au) wrote: Rural Italy, early 1900s. Two boys, Alfredo and Olmo, are born on thesame day - one to the owner of a large estate, the other to one of hislabourers. There is a massive divide between the classes in Italy, tothe point of antagonism. Despite this, and despite some disagreementsalong the way, Alfredo and Olmo become best friends. We see them growup, go to WW1 and their adult lives. Eventually their differentupbringings and social standings come back to haunt them, as Italy isplunged into class war - the Socialists (workers) vs the Fascists(supported by the middle- and upper-class). Alfredo and Olmo findthemselves on opposite sides.Epic drama, directed by Bernardo Bertolucci. Epic is a bit of an understatement for this movie - the full version isover five hours long! (Mini-series in one part would be a betterdescription!). Therein lies one of the problems with 1900 - while manyof the scenes are important, you feel that a lot of it could have beenedited out. Some scenes are just padding, and the writing within thosescenes reinforces this view. The result is that watching the movie becomes an ordeal. The unbalanced approach to the class differences is also irritating. The land owners, and Fascist supporters, are all shown as unfeeling, monsters, while the peasants are all shown in a very sympathetic light,to the point that random acts of violence and killing by them arecondoned. It's difficult to support people engage in such acts and/orwho proclaim Stalin as their hero...Casting is also odd. There's, as you would expect, a large Italian castbut many of the main roles are filled by Hollywood stars - Robert DeNiro, Burt Lancaster, Donald Sutherland, Sterling Hayden - dubbed intoItalian! It would have made more sense to have Italian actors, speakingItalian. The lips and words not being in sync gives a cheap, B-gradefeel to the movie. The basic plot was interesting, especially as you have the classic story of friends turned enemies through circumstances beyond their control, but this was ruined by the length of the movie and the pro-communist bias.

Joel H (nl) wrote: Please sir, tell me how Oliver! won Best Picture of 1968. Especially since that was the same year as 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's not like this is a bad movie - I liked it - but it just doesn't seem to have the same "greatness" as other musical adaptations, such as The Sound of Music or My Fair Lady. Ron Moody's performance as Fagin is fantastic, though, and Oliver Reed makes a very good villain. But still. . .Best Picture?

Thomas B (gb) wrote: I thought it was gonna be a run of the mill stagecoach type movie. However, it's a good movie. Plus, Susan Hayward is a babe!

Grace K (gb) wrote: Loving the names of all these big stars!

Old Fashion Romantic (us) wrote: Buy this movie it has a great cast. Dolph Lundgren and Trevor Goddard have a kick ass fight at the end.
