Peter P (gb) wrote: Great look at The Beatles before they were The Beatles, with Stu Sutcliff getting the spotlight as The Beatle that chose love and art over fame. It loses 1 star for having some needless nudity, but it is definitely worth seeing if you are a Beatles fan.
Jonathan B (mx) wrote: A rather gritty comedy from Alan Clarke that is something of a cult British classic. Rita, Sue and Bob Too perhaps makes more uncomfortable viewing these days than when it was released in the mid 1980s due to the subject matter. It involves a menage a trois between two school girls and a married man. It certainly doesn't shy away from the grubbiness of the affair but rather glosses over the morality and legality. However, that aside, it is still undoubtedly a funny movie, showing, as it does, a slice of Britain that was certainly run down and impoverished, but could also be tremendously exciting. Largely filmed in what can only be described as one of the most grim and run-down estates it is possible to imagine, the film charts the story of teenagers Rita and Sue who babysit for Bob and his wife Michelle. Bob and Michelle's marriage is an unhappy one and so Bob takes advantage of the attention of the two teenagers as he gives them a lift home. The film paints a rather grim picture of life in Yorkshire in the 1980s where girls in white stillies, aspire to be able to afford an avocado bath suite. For anyone who was at school during this period, there are plenty of references that will resonate and leave you cringing but both the dialogue and direction have really held up remarkably well. While it may have been over shadowed by other British movies made at this time, Rita, Sue and Bob Too still manages to hold its own, providing a social commentary on a bygone era as well as few chuckles along the way.
David E (br) wrote: Without a doubt one of the best films of the 1960s, "Easy Rider" served as a milestone in American cinema with its engaging story (nominated for the Best Original Screenplay Oscar) of two bikers on the road & meeting all sorts of people while contemplating their lives & purpose. The direction by Dennis Hopper (who co-starred) was bold, strong, & unique; the acting was great (Jack Nicholson was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar); & the music fitted the road travel. "Easy Rider" is an American classic & one of the best films ever!
Wes S (mx) wrote: A giant carrot tries to conquer a man but fails. There's a weird little bat thing that goes flapping all over the place and the story is pretty awful. The creature itself looks hilariously bad and it's fairly show. Another one of those films that best seen only on MST3K.
