David J (es) wrote: Kings Of The Summer may carry an indie vibe, but from the quality of the film is what you would expect out of something higher budget. All three protagonists, especially Arias as the wacky Biaggio are very good, and its what makes this movie. The story is fairly standard coming-of-age; two teens find themselves sick of their lives at home under the annoyances of parenthood, and run into the woods to live off the land. Throw in an unwanted outcast stowaway in the diminutive Biaggio and you have a squad. The film is excellently paced; and the quiet "indie" moments are done very well. You get the sense that something is happening even while everyone is silent, looking at each other, with no music in the background. Better yet, YOU KNOW what is happening, what each kid is thinking.Kings Of Summer isn't sappy at all, nor is it depressing or go-lucky. Its a very honest, plausible movie that doesn't aim higher than it can reach, and that makes it a minority in the genre. Finally, we have an indie-teen drama that doesn't reach for an audience by employing the same pretentious cliches that its peers did.

Bryan G (ca) wrote: I'd never heard of writer/director Ti West before seeing his 2009 film The House of the Devil, which went on to become my pick for the best horror film of the year as well as being one of my ten favorite films for 2009. After seeing what he was able to do with that film I became interested in seeing other works of his, so I added two of his other films that were available on Netflix to my queue and selected Trigger Man as being the first to watch. Trigger Man showcases what I admired so much about West's The House of the Devil, a very minimalist film that packs a very frightening situation. The movie is about three friends, Reggie (Reggie Cunningham), Ray (Ray Sullivan) and Sean (Sean Reid) as they embark into the woods on a hunting trip. But a few hours into their trip someone with a sniper rifle begins to open fire at them, turning them from hunters to the hunted. When this trio is first opened fire on I had what is commonly referred to as a "Holy Shit" moment. I knew it was coming, but it shocked me anyway at how the film went about introducing the violence. And I will give credit to the film for maintaining this tense feel for a decent amount of time during the film's run. West does a great job at making this movie feel real, with the hand-camera style it is done in, and I found myself absorbed in this story. But then there comes a problem. While I did like the story of Trigger Man, the movie itself feels like it is about an hour too long. A story such as this seems better suited for a short film, instead of a feature length one. After the initial shock of these men being opened fire on, it began to wear off shortly after that. And even with a few additional "Holy Shit" moments, Trigger Man began to drag on and I lost some interest towards the end. Still, the film does work to an extent. It certainly is worth a viewing, but multiple viewings will only hurt the film. At least Trigger Man did show some promise with its up and coming writer/director, and it is great to see that he went on to make a stellar film like The House of the Devil. I only hope that the next Ti West film I'm planning on watching, The Roost, is a little more enjoyable of an experience.

Manteb. Lalu yg keren juga, Scoringnya! So damn Beautiful.

Peter L (ag) wrote: I went to Paris, France together with my family during the winter of 2005AD, which occurred around the same time as the annual year-end holidays back home in Malaysia. At the end of our arduous travelling activities in one of those days there, we found a certain quaint hotel of three-stars status within the city's suburb for our accommodation. My siblings and I were given a separate room which has a television in it plus other facilities similar to what you would usually expect in any other ordinary hotels' rooms, so my brother excitedly switched it on, and it airs almost that entire night just for us to see what new and interesting programmes do the French national television broadcasting channels have to offer. It was a very cold night indeed from that moment, and before we could prepare ourselves for bedtime, unwittingly this film showed up.......and my enjoyment is gone while we were watching it! I could not sleep and had nightmares once it was over! In conclusion, this film has RUINED my vacation experience in France henceforth, how "terrific" then! >>n<<||My Rating: 1/5 star; Grade: D+; Gesture: Two Thumbs Down; Status: Closely Worse (Rotten); Emoticon: >:-(.
