(jp) wrote: Another underrated quality movie. Great actors. Suspenseful plot and humorous.

It has a nice plot but never gets really exciting. If you want some more laughs go to the TV series which isn't as well made and developed but will make you laugh and its stupidity
(nl) wrote: Gawd awful. Caught this movie on HBO last month due to sheer curiosity about Sonny Chiba's place in martial arts movies. He was great in Kill Bill Vol 1. And this film is supposed to be his touchstone. So I'm ready for some classic karate exploitation ass whupping, 70's style. Never occurred. Chiba, instead of projecting unstoppable bad assness, he evokes unintentional laughs and embarrassment. Especially the ridiculous faces he makes during the fight scenes. Instead of looking royally pissed off, he looks constipated. The plot? Who cares. Fight scenes are the sole reason for movies like this to exist. And they are terrible. Unfocused, poorly staged mess. This movie was originally rated X for violence. Don't know why. The blood looked like strawberry Kool-Aid. And when it sprays in geysers, there's no trashy kick. Just looks very inept. PS : this was the movie Christian Bale and Patricia Arquette were watching when they met in True Romance. They loved it. I was bored.
