Craig F (de) wrote: Lots of charisma between the three leads. Extremely believable.

Gillian H (us) wrote: Safety Not Guaranteed is a heartwarming movie worth 5 stars. Not very predictable, very good quality. Aubrey Plaza did an outstanding job, as always. This was (I'm pretty sure) the only time I've seen Mark Duplass in a movie, and he was a great actor also. I am glad that I watched it. The ending is kind of a Doctor Who-ish ending (which is a major plus to me.) I'm very impressed at this movie.

Matthew S (nl) wrote: Wow. This movie is so bad it almost hurts to watch.

Charlene B (gb) wrote: After moving from Boston to Sikeston after the death of her husband, Belinda Simpson and her friend Annie Nelson develop a treatment for a mysterious cholera epidemic that is affecting the local orphanage.

Mostafa Z (de) wrote: It is hard to make a movie about the science of drug discovery and avoid making it a boring narrative. A good movie about a larger than life character, an enjoyable watch.

Christopher H (gb) wrote: Poorly acted, poorly presented, and completely telegraphed, "Fear Island" has extremely little to offer, in line with every other bottom barrel horror B-movie being squeezed out these days. Haley Duff shows zero control of her emotions and flails through the laughable direction that is thrown her way.

MacKeni M (ca) wrote: The dancing was okay, maybe? The rest of the film, though, was god-awful. Channing Tatum looked half-asleep through the majority of the film. On top of that, the film did everything it could cinematically to scream "He's the star!!!" as if that wasn't apparent from the billing. The story was almost literally thrown together and half-baked. I could count maybe three directions they were trying for, and they didn't decide on a single one. This film is a mess. You're better off watching paint dry.

Adam G (br) wrote: Sam Raimi may have disowned the final product due to excessive studio intervention, but the film still carries his distinctive signature. He set out to make a live action comic book, and he very nearly succeeds, even in its current form. I doubt we'll see it, but I'd love to see a Crimewave director's cut. That'd rule.

Richard C (it) wrote: It might be seen as overtly sentimental to some, but this is a testament to Douglas Sirk's greatness and only serves as an example of the sort of film that wannabe writers and directors of romantic drama should look at in terms of how to do a great and engaging film of such a difficult genre to crack. Here, Rock Hudson plays Bob Merrick, a spoiled millionaire whose attempts at impressing a woman result in his near-death in a motorboat accident, only for his life to be saved by a resuscitator. Unfortunately, in the most brutal of coincidences, the resuscitator is also needed for a popular doctor who dies as a result of the lack of medical equipment, prompting Merrick to try and make amends using the so-called magnificent obsession theory with the doctor's widow Helen Phillips (played convincingly by Jane Wyman who was Oscar-nominated for this role), only for his actions to result in a life-altering accident. Horrified by making a situation worse than it can already get, Merrick attempts to make life for Helen better, regardless of the obstacles facing both characters. What we see for nearly two hours is a relationship of different characters bought together under the most unorthodox of circumstances, but these are characters who are given life and interest thanks to the engaging performances of Hudson and Wyman. Additionally, the film contains a trademark well-organized direction by Sirk whose best talent was making films like this which could have gone either way and fallen into the back of the scrapheap, but were prevented thanks to his ways of making us feel for those involved, as well as the use of beautiful visualization and engaging story. This is an example of that theory and is a film that deserves multiple viewings and ultimately ranks alongside Imitation of Life and All That Heaven Allows as the films that confirm, in the same way Hitchcock is to suspense, Sirk as the master of melodrama.

Ashley H (mx) wrote: Stalag 17 is an incredible film. It is about two escaping American World War II prisoners who are killed and that a German POW camp barracks black marketer is suspected of being an informer. William Holden and Otto Preminger give excellent performances. The screenplay is well written. Billy Wilder did a great job directing this movie. I enjoyed watching this motion picture because of the drama. Stalag 17 is a must see.
