Steve S (de) wrote: a so so mystery drama with some decent performances from alessandro nivola and josh brolin. some good twists and turns, but nothing that really stood out to me.

John N (mx) wrote: I saw this movie when it came out. My brother wanted to see it and I was strapped for cash. He paid for my ticket and asked me what I though. I told him that the best part of that movie was that I didn't have to pay for it. It was not scary and the concept was just stupid. I'm not sure why people like this or find it scary.

Lee M (jp) wrote: Messy and compromised as it is, the picture's grungy unrest still is an interesting attempt at capturing the business and zeitgeist of Britain's punk rock scene.

Davis P (de) wrote: Ok horror film, but it lacks a lot of follow thru, it takes too long to come around to the scare factor, and the acting really isn't all that great, so overall this film is unfortunately a rotten tomato.

Rabih H (kr) wrote: No it's not oscar material, but it's a really funny ride through some ridiculous scenes. None of it is realistic and it's all over the top, but still highly enjoyable and fun!

Dan P (nl) wrote: I started watching the Top 50 Westerns. Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner star in this classic.Matt Devereau tries to raise four sons in the same manner as his tough upbringing with little success. Joe, the youngest and son of his 2nd wife, is treated differently because of his ethnicity. Joe loves his father and will do anything for him while the other three feel they are treated like hired hands. This one gets a thumbs up!

Blake P (es) wrote: This movie is one of my favorite film noirs of all time. John Payne stars in this 1953 classic, and I consider this one of his best performances. He plays a failed boxer that has to turn into a cab driver to scrounge up enough money to support his bitter wife Pauline (Castle). She runs to a villainous crime leader Vic for love and money, but when when John Payne's character Ernie finds out, he goes on an angry rampage, causing him to be wanted from the police. Then the worst happens and Vic kills Pauline, and frames Ernie. With the help of his lover (Keyes), Ernie has to prove he's innocent. "99 River Street" is so much more than most famous film noirs, like "The Big Sleep" or "Out of the Past". It has non-stop violence, killing, for once the actors really REALLY get into their characters, which was amazing. I consider this to be John Payne's best role, I have never seen an actor get so angry onscreen besides Robert Ryan's racist bigot Monty from "Crossfire". Payne most certainly should have been nominated for something but most likely didn't because this was a B-movie. Noir usual Evelyn Keyes is phenomenal here, and proved she could do just about anything in her role. This was my first movie seeing her, and I can say I'm coming back for more. The cinematography is certainly worth mentioning, the smoky dark atmosphere mixed with the shadowy lighting all comes out in a very eery quality, and almost mirrored every action on camera. Bravo to director Phil Karlson! "99 River Street" is almost too overlooked, and once any film noir fan sees in they should know theyre in for a wild ride. Recommended.
