Johnny T (au) wrote: Thumbsucker aims high but swerves too frequently between the engaging and the credibility-defying to be satisfying. The movie and its theme of self-acceptance has an honesty, undercut by occasional preciousness, that makes it worth seeing. The actors can't escape the confines of the warmed-over, coming-of-age-in-suburbia script by Mills, from a novel by Walter Kirn. The film's underlying notion, that imperfection is the essence of humanity and the pursuit of bland flawlessness a kind of soul-killing drug, is far more compelling than its story of clichd teen angst. The parents are the casualties of Mills' misplaced sincerity, which makes Thumbsucker the quintessential misadapted head-scratcher. So no one would argue that Thumbsucker sucks. But the thing does seem just so indie-movie familiar. Often amusing but lacks the necessary bite. VERDICT: "In The Zone" - [Mixed Reaction] These kinds of movies are usually movies that had some good things, but some bad things kept it from being amazing. This rating says buy an ex-rental or a cheap price of the DVD to own. If you consider cinema, ask for people's opinion on the film. (Films that are rated 2.5 or 3 stars)

He keeps his integrity while embracing his uncompromising lifestyle of bar fights and heavy drinking. The real appeal of this film comes from seeing Mickey Rourke give the performance of his career. Fay Dunaway is equally captivating and the two of them make a perfect couple. It's a slice of life with a very intimate feel. Favorite scene: bloody face while listening to John Adams' Shaker Loops. Classic!

Alexei G (kr) wrote: I can't help feeling disappointed with this movie. It's not as impressive as it could have been. To begin with, the title sequence is unimpressive and there's not a lot of build up towards our protagonist before the bland title appears. As for the rest of the movies, I suppose it is a mild pleasure to see ninjas in an actual action movie, but the combat scenes tend to be hit-or-miss and the best action doesn't really come around until the end. The characters don't really do much for me. The main protagonist, Joe, doesn't say anything in his defense when he needs to, and while he may be confident he usually doesn't impress much. The lead female is a rather shallow and airheaded personality who does little but get herself and Joe into trouble, and in the beginning she doesn't seem to realize or care that anyone's saved her life. The best character by far is Jackson just because of how he develops into a real friend. In general the movie has its good moments and I'm convinced that the makers of this movie tried to make a good or at least decent action movie, but for the most part it fails to impress.

Trent R (ru) wrote: Predictable, but enjoyably so, with Rooney cast excellently against type and isolated in the frame early and often to good effect. He and Foster play well together, with her chauvinistic accomplices supporting in a nicely contrasting manner. It takes nearly an hour to get to the specifics of the caper, but the time given to character development is spent well and heightens the impact of the more quickly paced close.

Six months after the firing, Shakur assaulted the director, resulting in Shakur being found guilty of assault and battery. Shakur did not want to play the role of Sharif, as he did not agree (in regards to the authenticity of such a role) that a Muslim could also be a gangbanger. He is quoted as saying the following in a video interview, "I said okay, cool... fire me from this $100,000 movie, because I ain't goin' play no gangbanger who's a Muslim. There ain't no such thing, I refuse to play parts that don't exist. Alex S (ru) wrote: Carol is a beautifully crafted movie that infuses underrepresented themes into mainstream fare as best as any movie can to allow for a romance that is in equal parts sweet, sad, and, ultimately, inspiring.

Susan E (ag) wrote: I rated it higher than it deserves. I enjoy the craftsmanship. The music is used used cleverly and the supporting cast are such delightful cliches. There are some slow spots at the start, but the destruction of the French fort at the end is great fun.
